This makes me wonder if some dealers are resetting the computer, forcing the trucks to re-learn.

For me, I hope that’s the case and that it eventually re-learns. If not my dealer is gonna be seeing a me a lot...

I think it's been noted that some people who thought they may have gotten an update and posted their service records actually only had their ECU reset and not updated. If the ECU actually got updated then yes, it definitely has to relearn as all history has been wiped.

This is exactly my case as well, Supposedly had the T-SB done, but no proof of the correct SW as no sticker nor any notes written on receipt. It did have the charge code for a SW load, but my truck seems to have just moved the surge or "Chug-a-lug" sensations to the higher MPH range as described above.

These trucks seems to be a "Jelkle and Hyde" no two the same?

It’s not going to be fixed by the tune. It’s the protective coating on the crankshaft sensor being to thick when it was applied

Could be, however I have a hard time believing the stumble (at least what I have experienced) is from the CPS. If the CPS was causing an issue, it would not be isolated to that particular situation - significant load from a stop. I can go WOT at any other time without any hesitation. Not characteristic of a CPS related issue.

With that said, I am well aware of the CPS issues with the 3rd gen.

Mine was done awhile ago, it is like an ECT-Lite.Mine ran pretty good before, but now it is better. It has better throttle response but will go to the higher gear if you let it.Also holds gears better on inclines. Not bad for no charge.

Well i picked up my new Taco last Wednesday and didn't notice anything. It was something the salesman and i discussed before and after the sale. I mentioned to him that they must have done an update because i noticed no issues, perhaps mine was already updated? I'm probably taking it up to Big Bear this weekend so that will be the perfect test. Couldn't be happier with the truck I really liked my old Nissan Frontier but this truck is a big step up. Hopefully next year they actually install electric adjustable seats for the next round of customers.I guess they figure F it we sell these regardless.

    Yeah.
Highly doubtful that they applied it. Unless something is part of a service campaign or recall, they have no reason to mess with anything.

brbbb i guess i'll have to say something when i bring it in for my first 5000 service check? btw pleasant surprise they are using synthetic oil now on the free oil changes. I'll definitely have all my service work done in Bakersfield not here it's about a 3 hour drive I don't really think I need to address this issue now do I? The truck is running great i'm one of those if it's not broken don't fix it guys. It doesn't affect all of them does it? One quick question how do i keep the radio on when the truck is shut off?

I felt really happy with how the truck drove as well and maybe because I used ect for spirited driving most of the time but the TSB did a big improvement imo.

For example, with ect off, there was a deadzone when pressing the pedal, where the truck wouldn't really do much, but if I went past the deadzone it would suddenly lurch forward like you just instantly demanded 75% power, that is gone and the shifting is smoother, power delivery is more linear.

When the truck is off, you have to turn the key just before it starts it and that lets all the electronics on the inside, radio included work.

This morning I took my truck to the local dealership with both TSB's in hand; 0058-18 & 0062-18. I explained that the TSB's detail perfectly the problems I've had with the truck from day 1. The service writer say, "No problem, I'll have my tech update the ECM for you right now". 30 mins later, the truck is finished. The invoice shows EG1810 Reprogrammed ECM (PCM)

I pull out of the parking lot and start my 9 mile drive home. Immediately, I noticed the shifts points have been changed and changed for the better. The truck holds all gears a bit longer, not so eager to get to the higher gears as soon as possible. The up and down shifts are silky smooth, zero shift-shock. Prior to the update, it would take a good 40% of the gas peddle to get a downshift. Now, with only a tiny bit of pressure on the gas peddle I get a seamless, instant downshift to the correct gear. The surging and bucking feeling at 42-45 mph is gone. In my opinion, it seems the transmission now operates in half power mode. All-in-all I'm very happy with the update and the transmission is far less confused than prior to the update.

If anyone is in the Ft. Lauderdale area go see Service Writer Mike Zaremby at Deerfield Toyota, no questions asked, fixed in less than 30 mins.

UPDATE: Spoke to the service manager today and he was a very nice man and was fully aware that this update matches my trucks VIN and should have been applied. When I take it back for a bad rear window seal he said to come speak with him and he will personally make sure that the update is completed and paperwork shows it was applied. I like to always give them a chance to make it right and so far this is back on the right track. I explained I am not one to show up every time there is a TSB. BUT, this drivetrain has given me buyers remorse since day 1. So for ANY updates I see for the trans/engine I WILL be coming in for a visit.

Thanks CF i'm still a total noob with this truck night and day compared to the old Frontier. I have broken out the manual but truth be told just skimmed right through it. Truth is man i'm exhausted right now so this weekend we are taking a much needed break. I'll definitely spend a few hours on the manual and i'll take you up on your advice. NOBA has already scheduled me a service so i'll touch base with my sales rep Gary, besides I need those free all weather floor mats(they gave me the rugs instead). So the update and the mats gives me an excuse drive up to Bakersfield hit one the steakhouses up there. OHHHH the little key haha! I totally forgot about that lil guy. Strange because i haven't used the key yet but to lock the tailgate. The second day the radio was mysteriously on after I shut the truck off. I don't know what i did there?! Well so far you guys haven't steered me wrong yet so it's a done deal. The only people I haven't listened to here were the double cab fans, I went with the access cab and couldn't be happier.I must have that 6' bed and the access cab really does look better than the double it's a freakin predator! sits up perfectly level and plenty high enough. I don't feel i need a lift kit we'll see when i get up to Big Bear this weekend btw it was 46F there last night. I'll be up in that area next month until April working and we are going have early snow I can just feel it. I need those all weather mats. Thanks for looking out brother i'll get it done and by then i'll have probably driven the truck enough hopefully report on changes after the update.

Sounds like you have one of those old school America dealerships like my NO Bakersfield dealership. These people are great it really is like a family. Nice to see everyone smiling also. I now see why this forum is so big also. You guys are right on top of this stuff i'm so glad people here didn't allow me back off my Tacoma (in a nice way) Man if i had bought another Frontier after driving this truck I would have been horrified.
