GrillGrate grates came in today. I'll be cooking a couple more practice ribeyes tonight. See if I can get those wicked grill marks the judges are looking for :D.

I bought some tomahawks, too. After the steak competition on Friday, there is a People's Choice for steak. Festival patrons try steaks from a handful of teams and vote for their favorite. I figured a couple of big ass tomahawks on the 26" Weber would make a nice impression .

    Using the Unicorn Rub? :)

One of these days I have to buy some of the tomahawk steaks. I’m cheap so $35 for a single steak is hard for me to pay.

That's the plan. I think the stuff tastes pretty good. We'll see what the judges and the festival-goers think on Friday .

I got these for around $12.99/lb, I think. They aren't huge - 'only' about 2 lbs each - so I was just over $50 invested. The festival is providing us some NY Strip steaks and I might pick up a couple extra ribeyes.

I have NO idea how many steaks to cook to be able to give out 100 or so samples. 5? 8?

    I would go for about 100 :)

Seriously though I would figure on 7-10 factoring in shrinkage and a decent sample size.

We'd DOMINATE the contest if everyone got a whole steak from us .

Was thinking I could have a few ribeyes, a couple strips, and some skirt steak - give the people an option for which type of steak they want to try?

Might get messy, though. Who knows. We'll figure something out :D.

That would be cool but also could be harder on cooking to the right temps and having them all come out at/around the same time. :)

You'll love the grillgrates if making badass grill marks is your goal. Heck, I even get perfect marks on burgers when I'm using them!

I have a SCA steak cook-off on Friday and grill marks are a huge deal for presentation, apparently. I bought these specifically for that one steak I turn in on Friday .

If I like them enough, I might let them hang around my arsenal ;).

We'll have 4 smokers and two Webers out there, plus three of us cooks. We should be able to man it, but timing would be a little tricky. We'll play it by ear :D.

I head up the operation. Then we have Trent who runs the motorcycle shop we had our cook at. Brandon's the third. His daughter is home from the hospital and should be available.

I say should because his son got strep, then Brandon got strep, and he's till recovering from fatigue. No longer contagious and not really feeling ill anymore, but he's had a really rough month and a half.

If you have an Aldi store close to you, might want to check if they have the 79c per pound pork shoulder butt. Got a few earlier @Misplaced Nebraskan

Kaelyn's home! That's great. I knew that at one point it could have been up to 4 more weeks. That's kinda why I was surprised to hear you say 3 cooks.
