Edit: You’re probably never going to get what you want for your truck as a trade-in. Plus, Prerunners are not valued as high as 4x4 here. If you really think your truck is worth much more than what the dealership is offering, you're better off selling the truck own your own (private party).

Buying a new vehicle is a shell and pea game. The pea is the price you actually pay for the vehicle, and of course that also represents one shell.

Shell #2 is a trade in. Shell #3 is dealer financing.

You have to take shells 2 and 3 off the table to know your true price of the vehicle. Otherwise they just shuffle till you feel good.

 

The only other benefit to trading is avoiding higher sales tax on final price, but that’s only if you get to agreeable terms.

I’d recommend selling your truck private party. It’s 2WD, but it’s still the 4.0L and really, most trucks here on island are pavement princesses anyways. Someone will pay more than 10k, so why let Servco make that money?

The first stealership low-balled you if they only offered $10,500. Better to listen to post #40 (copied below).

If they’re giving you TRD wheels, are they also giving you Toyo ATs or just gonna remount the stock rubber? I’d push for that to be included in the deal you have.

 

I was lucky as the dealership offered me $1,000 less than what I might have gotten privately on the sale of my 2009 Honda CRV. For that price I didn't have to get a safety check, Emission test and more importantly deal with assholes on Craiglist/Kijiji, ect...

In NH you can use the unused portion of your registration towards the new one. They're ripping you off otherwise, so check into it.
