Best Dash Cam for Taco

Dont buy that for dash cam.
1. Probably doesn't have functions like auto on and overwrite old file
2. Not 4k, processor is Novatec 96650, its about 4 mb. And 4k needs 8 mb. So they just enlarged picture to 4k. I explain it above.
3. Its a "action camera" it doesn't have right software to be dashcam, like light adjustment.... Wont see license plates at night

 

I'm running the Rexing V1, It's not perfect, but it's good. I have to manually shut off the screen every time I turn it on, but in hindsight, it's a "System Check" and I know its running. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to test it out for it's intended purpose, it did everything it should have done and is now mounted in my Tacoma. If I were to start over I would spend the extra 25-30$ and get the one with the Rear view camera as well, but it does have like 170 degree field of view so it picks up a lot of information as it stands.

I got the Rexing with the rearview combo and the quality is horrible, can barely read the license plates... but it should do it's job if needed

 

I have this one. Its the Mini 0906 a dual camera system for $130. Does HD only and can take up to a single 128gb SD.

I just picked up a Anker C1 Pro, which a few of my friends have been very happy with.

Gonna feel a little better after the last few days almost being in several accidents due to general driver stupidity. I figure $85 after the ebay discount is cheap insurance to avoid a "he said - she said" type deal.

 

I've been quite happy with mine!!

 

I also picked up one from ebay. I'm excited for it to arrive tomorrow!

 

That was in a VW Jetta, (Kudo's to the GREAT engineering in that automobile, Everyone was fine, it was a great car) after insurance totaled the Jetta I used the funds to get me into a used Tacoma, and Here I am! The Dash Cam went into the Tacoma on day one!

Yeah...my future first mod for any vehicle will be a dash cam, and THEN tint for dem UV rays and heat

Seriously though if car manufacturers just put a stock dash cam in their vehicles this would help a lot...they already put in those smart sensors for automatic emergency braking etc. If we had these dash cams maybe people would drive safer rather than relying on their lane changers and parking sensors. Sorry just ranting after I got my truck it was hit twice and in the shop for nearly a month and a half...also did not help that I had some projects finishing up then and couldn't haul anything in the awesome minivan they gave me as a rental(yes...a minivan)

 

One of my insurance adjuster friends is adamant that the best way to make safer drivers would be if they could install a machete coming out of the steering wheel. Bet you wouldn't text and drive like an asshole if you have that in your face all the time.

 

Idk man...pretty much 80% of people I see around me are on their phones. This includes emergency services, and sometimes even semis.

It's just common sense, people get upset when someone walks into them in the market/store/etc while texting or not paying attention. If people just paid some more attention a lot of unnecessary stress could be avoided. Everyone wants to get to where they want to go but if I have to stop and file and insurance claim and maybe not even be able to drive my car that's gonna ruin my day a whole lot more than being a few minutes late.

 

Where do y'all mount your dash cams? I tried to stick mine behind the mirror but it wouldn't stick to that surface.

I'm also slightly worried about the local methheads trying to break into my truck for a $30 camera.

 

Public Safety are the ones that get me. Like they of all people should get it...

 

I've been running a Yi compact dash cam for a couple months now. Pretty pleased with it for the price/video quality and it being my first dashcam. I'll likely upgrade at some point. Curious to see how it handles summer heat, but I am not expecting too great of a performance given it runs a battery and not a capacitor. I'm not too impressed with a lot of the stuff in the $80-150 price range. Sort of hard to find a cam that is quality/reliable/fairly priced all in one. Reviews are all so mixed, especially on all the ones you find on Amazon. Which is why I went with something cheaper for now. Next cam I want to have dual front and rear cameras.

 

"Viofo a119 PRO" just came out. I have ordered it. It has 5mb light sensor, unlike all above dashcams, they all 4 mb or under.

It has Novateck 96660 processor, i think its little on slow side (380 Mhz. ) to process Super HD (1440 at 30fps) theres better ones like Ambarella a7LA70 thats around 800 Mhz. Let's see.

I've just gotten the Viofo A129 Duo and will give it a spin this week. Coming from an A119S which has been great for the past year.

 

What's up all. So I'm in the market for a dash cam, and I've been mulling over this issue for a while, instead of having a big unit near my rear view mirror that attracts unwanted eyes (I live in a well populated neighborhood and have to park it on a busy street daily) I figured my next best option would be to have as small of a camera as I could behind that mirror (and in the rear as well, so it'd be a dual setup). So I started researching and found that motorcyles have this system thats pretty awesome. There's 2 separate cameras, that feed into a screen that can be mounted anywhere in the cab that acts as a DVR. It also has a separate button that you can press to do a quick 15 second snapshot of video. Has anyone done a setup like this?
I'm really up for this, but my ONLY hangup is that the video camera wiring is not long enough. It's set up for a motorcycle which is about 1/3 the length of our trucks so it wont work too well. I've emailed the company to ask if I could purchase more extensions for the cable, and they said I could, but it might mess with video quality (which i kinda believe, but I kinda think they might just be trying to release some liability if something goes wrong or doesnt work the way it should, which is understandable) but my question is, is tapping into and extending a video cable as easy as an audio cable? Audio cables can be extended all day, but I know a video signal is much different than an audio signal, so I'm wondering what type of cable would I use to extend it? Is this a crazy idea? Thanks

Just came from Seoul, South Korea, and guess drivers there are so bad car manufacturers have included both forward and rear cameras; Govt probably also mandated it

 

Dude, I wish this would become a standard but I am afraid of what would happen if it does...

In the meantime, I have been really enjoying the use and functionality of the Rexing but for the life of me cannot attach it properly to the rear sliding window...I just keep it tucked into the ceiling and have to adjust it all the time especially after I get the truck washed.

Do you guys keep it mounted? Does anyone have a custom solution that attaches stronger than glue? It seems like it is meant to be attached via some type of adhesive but I don't think it will adhere well to the texture of the material contained under the ceiling mat. When I go over large bumps or areas that cause my truck to rattle a lot the rearview camera gets thrown out of position entirely.

I am thinking I may need to screw a small screw through the ceiling into the mounting plate so that I can keep a consistent location without it shifting around. Do any of you guys or gals do that or do you just use the adhesive that came with the cameras?(Rexing or not)
