Best tire pressure for mpg on 285s?

    The cost of regearing would no doubt buy you a substantial amount of gas. For the 1-2 mpg you'll gain, it'll take years to make up the difference. Just saying... Will it increase drivability and make the truck more fun? Sure. But regearing with the idea that it'll save $ at the gas pump doesn't make sense. You bought a truck, and then put some big bitchin' tires on it. It is what it is. You'd be better off scouring craigslist for a cheap set of wheels/tires in the stock size, preferably with a highway tread, to use as your commuter set, then swap the 285s on for weekend camping trips or whatever.

    It really doesn’t matter. You will not save MPGs on tire pressure. You will however wear your tread out faster with high pressure just costing you money on the back end.

    How you drive will matter more in city driving. Drive like your 90 and mogs should go up if you currently drive like it you stole it.

    I run 265s that are taller than stock on a DCLB and I just moved so I went from all highway to all city driving and So far my mpgs are still 18 average.

    Just too bad op is a sr5. If he was a trdor I'd consider trading diffs with gearing ready to go for a small fee.

    Still the problem of 3rd gen vs 2nd. But if you either live at elevation, in a hilly area, or use your truck at all off road more than a dirt road, I highly recommend regearing. I believe third gen guys are going with either 4.88 or 5.13 for 33's

    I personally don't care about MPG's that much... 285's shitty, anyway you want to put it. What I care is about is even tread wear.

    What pressure are ya'll running to keep even wear without cupping?

    Also alignment... Factory specs are best I assume?

    Tire type is a factor when finding proper pressure. Some tires are more stiff than others and will require less air. The chalk test literally takes 10 minutes.

    Tire pressure will depend on load rating and what tire you actually have. Chalk test is the only way to really find out what is ideal for wear.

    What is your suspension setup for the alignment question?

    I guess I'll have to look up how to do the chalk test for tire pressure "link please".

    Alignment... I have 285/75/16 BFG KO2's on stock 16" OR wheels, 1.5" Synergy wheel spacers, 5100's in front with stock springs set on top setting, and 1" Toytec rear blocks. What specs for alignment should I go for?

    lol dont matter what mpg with 35s -- still shitty, aerodynamics big factor at this point, having shitty aero with bumper, big air hogging tires and tent make a bigger impact on mpg.

    but since this thread about pressure you get best mpg pumping those tires past the normally run pressure.....that means your contact patch would not be ideal. I ran 40-50 psi busting 3k miles to expo on a full truck. the difference is very marginal, like 1-2 mpg at the expense of your tires if you run higher or lower. Run your tires based on your load, its not worth over inflating to get the extra mileage . I run 37 unloaded all around and 40ish loaded.

    Cool. I was going to set the alignment as close to stock as possible and run 38psi to start. Then just inspect cupping and adjust pressure accordingly.

    I get 13.5 mpg city with my K02 285 running 34-36 PSI

    Used to be 15-18 but I think with about 4 months of use it's gone down to 13.

    I feel like it's just heavy tires for the aggressive look I like.

    Anyone recommend other tires with all terrain, aggressive looking, but not so heavy?
