New comms arrived yesterday, already planning the install for this weekend and trying to decide how I want to do everything...

Even thinking of going ahead and upgrading the antenna on it as well and how to go about mounting an upgraded antenna on the passenger side of the hood.

    Midland MXT275 GMRS Two-Way

Will be hard wiring the radio instead of using the cig lighter plug as well.

    Yes.
You do have a GMRS license... Right?

I have a Laird GMRS 1/4 wave antenna on the roof of my Tundra. on a Laird NMO mount that's drilled through the roof.

I did not, but everyone I can tell does not run a Firestick with these types of radios and just CB radios. But I am not 100% on that, just going off what rugged radios and others sell for these types of radios.

I am just going to get one from Midland.

    Paying for that today actually.

I am not planning on drilling through the roof and not looking at mounting the better antenna on the roof as I frequent a parking garage at work for the gym, so am looking to put it on the passenger side of the hood more than likely.

I was looking at one of these antennas - https://midlandusa.com/product/micromobile-mxta11-6db-gain-antenna/

    @Lars

This is what I posted in my build thread about some hood mounts... that I would assume should work with that Midland antenna... https://midlandusa.com/product/micromobile-mxta11-6db-gain-antenna/

    Yes.
What kind of mount are you thinking about for on the hood? It'll need to have an NMO base for that Midland antenna.

    Yes.
Specifically the "tacoma" one you posted first in your build thread.
The trunk edge mounts that clamp on are only "ok"

The right angle brackets work great as well... I linked the antenna I did because it's a whopping 7" tall.
Personally, I think I would put a right angle bracket (second mount you linked) on the roof rack of the Tacoma, and run that short antenna there. However you might not have 7" above the roof rack in your garage at work. My 7" antennas clear the garage easily. the 19" roof mounted antennas not so much. While my Tundra is awful tall, I don't have a rack on the roof.

Ah yea, the "Tacoma" one is a drivers side only mount though, which I guess is not an issue, but I had an easier route planned to run the cable via the passenger side, that and I don't have an FM/AM antenna on the truck... I guess I could always run the cable along the back of the firewall over to the passenger side of the truck and so forth and still have the antenna mounted on the drivers side of the truck.

If I wanted to mount it on the roof on my Prinsu rack, I could do the right angle and instead of the long 27.5 antenna, which would not work for the parking garage at work or for my house. I could do one of the smaller Midland antennas (https://midlandusa.com/product/mxta9-unity-gain-antenna/) or maybe the other one which is just a foot long in length, but that might be too long.
