Sounds like you have some experience with this. Maybe you'd be willing to help or guide me through it some weekend?

Supposedly once it's done it'll streamline our delivery system a lot (since it'll eliminate deliveries to customers when they aren't open), but I have my doubts. So far it mostly has added 1-2 hours to each run, since it zig-zags drivers all over the place trying to hit delivery windows rather than just running them in a loop.

I can see how that will streamline it. But they will have to optimize the routes properly or else you won't see the added benefits and like you said will end up costing more time.

We use a system called road net. What system are they trying to set up for you guys?

Also Roadnet. Currently it sucks.

The program has a lot of potential, but it needs to be implemented correctly and right now it isn't.

Edit- To clarify, right now they're optimizing it on order of priority, with some of the biggest accounts getting top priority, then a 2nd tier assigned a lower priority and then a 3rd tier for restock orders for dealerships/large tire dealers getting lowest priority. As a result, the drivers are bouncing all over the place rather than delivering in a linear fashion, and it's adding so much time to the deliveries that they're getting back 2 hours late from the morning runs, and as a result can't get the afternoon deliveries finished before customers start closing.

Yeah once it's up and running it works pretty good. Are they putting GPS's into each truck so you can see where they are and what the ETA's are?

The trucks already have the GPS units in them, but apparently we're still waiting on the driver interface side of it (something to do with blackberries, I think), so right now it's only giving us an accurate position about half of the time, which is even worse than not having any GPS at all, really. You ping a driver, it pops up that he's 20 minutes away from the customer, and then 90 minutes later you get a call from a customer ranting about not getting his delivery yet. So you ping the driver again and he's still 20 minutes away
