If this falls through and I never hear back from Oreilys, my next choice is Northern Tool. If that fails, I'll push wheelchairs at the airport with some of my High school friends as that's almost a guaranteed job. They say its good money but the hours suck as usually 3 people have to wait until the 2am flight comes in. So I'm not without options, just not many good ones.

although it is pretty cool of Dodge to still offer a manual trans on their diesel trucks...even though I hear it's a severely detuned version of the auto

For sure, I remember the struggle being young and trying to build up work experience and education to get the bigger jobs...not fun but it pays off in the long run. Most important thing is to always have something for your resume, even if it's a job you think doesn't look good...the worst thing is to have big gaps on your resume where you're unemployed (unless it's for school)

I always think during times of desperately needing a job to get by, a jobs a job. Its helping me pay bills, roof over my head, gas in my truck, parts for my lift...etc...etc...

Hospitality industry might not be for some but for others its doing the same thing as the above.

Let's just say that it cost my wife (gf at the time) an interview back in the day, and she started calling it "Christine" (movie reference you're probably too young to get, lol). It had a string of issues. She didn't really care how it was amazing the starter motor lasted as long as it did since it was submerged for 3 days (not quite @Jamesboy2233 level, but it was up to the windshield), or that it was actually a good truck for having 300k+ hard miles on it, or that it smelled like cat pee (OMG that NEVER comes out - don't ever transport car-sick cats in your truck!)

Then the motor blew, so it sat in the garage while I *hoped* it was the head gasket and tried to fixed it. Turned out to be the block was cracked.

So, it sat for a little while then she tells me: if you sell "Christine" you should use the money to get a dirtbike.

I mean, I loved that truck like it was my child, but every man has his price - it was on craigslist within the hour and sold for full asking price within 2 days. Bought a dirtbike (my DRZ) the 3rd day.

You gotta be 21 to become a cop

And if a agency doesn’t sponser you then you gotta pay for school yourself

dude tell me about it...my fiance's cat pissed all over our house and my gym bag dozens of times during the first year that we moved into our new place. Getting the cat pee smell out is almost impossible, especially if it's in a fabric and sits for more than a few hours. I love cats but I damn near threw that one outside for the coyotes.

LE shouldn't be one of those jobs you consider getting on a whim because you need money. It's a HIGHLY stressful and dangerous job and takes (or should take) a certain type of personality to do well.

I would advise against doing both unless you truly felt it was your calling.. I have the utmost respect for our servicemen and women but have always cringed at the idea that young people should join while they 'figure life out'. Unless you really need that brand of discipline, or feel it is your calling/passion to serve, there are other ways to figure out where you want to go in life without that kind of commitment.

Hopefully that wasn't too political *gets banned*

You could see if your local agency has a cadet program. Pretty much you work at the staion and run stuff around town.
It usally pays good and is flexible

The more I think about it the more there are exceptions though...there are careers in life where a few years in LE or the military could really give you a big jumpstart ahead of everyone else. But people that do that, do it knowing what their plan is and where it's going to take them which makes all the difference.
