Doors: OEM Foam damping.

My 2015 Tacoma had this weird foam in the front doors bolted to the cross bar and adhered to the upper and lower portion of the sheet metal on the outside of the door.

Is this sound damping?

 

That's something I never saw on my 2012. Must had been added in later on. Yes it is a sound dampening of sorts.

 

It does have the JBL audio system. Maybe it depends on the audio system.

I'm deadening the doors with soundskins so I guess I'll just rip these OEM dampers out of the door.

 

..... that looks ALOT like something for Collision sake....

if it was sound deadening it would have been a lot " softer " to absorb vibration freq.

 

It's not on the back doors and besides the two screws it's adhered with 3m sticky tape so I doubt it's for safety.
