There are brackets made to attach to the roof rack rails or even the bed rails and keep it low and clean.

These have been the best under hood lights I have found, very small completely sealed and low amp draw, come in red, blue, amber, and white. And only cost $12.

    Yes.
Are you saying mine isn't clean? :)

The truth is, they're harder to spot in person. I had to work to get photos that they stood out in :)

@Lars have you heard anything as to what is going to happen now with Verizon buying out the low band frequencies? I know several schools and concert halls will be affected because it's the same band that wireless microphones use right now.

It's always fun though to take a fluorescent light tube out and just stand there and watch the word come alight.

Yep. Used to do that with a handheld just to teach supply troops to not hold the radio with the antenna smack between their eyes.

    They got the point immediately.

    Yes.
I haven't... But I do know the FCC auctions off small portions of spectrum periodically.

    https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/thumbnails/image/january_2016_spectrum_wall_chart.jpg
Amateur Radio accounts for less than 1% of the available spectrum. What the FCC is auctioning off is even less than that.

They have not release exactly what frequencies were bought in the auction, just that Verizon spent $3billion with a B for the lot. Makes me think it's more than just a few barely used channels. Makes me think it's going to be an 800/900mhz fiasco all over again.

    Edit

I just did some more research on it. FCC sold off broadband frequencies commonly used to broadcast television for a new 5g system with Dish, Yahoo, at&t, Verizon, tmobile, and comcast.

Altogether its 3billion from Verizon, and 5 billion from AT&T/DISH.

Trying to be less in debt and less fat?

Other than that, looks like I started a giant side rail of the entire thread that has left a lot of people extremely confused...

But thanks @Lars for the tons of info on what I pretty much need to do when I go about upgrading the antenna on this GMRS radio!

No you didn't learned I need to figure my long term plan for the radio use and I don't know anything about them. @Lars is going to help get mine set up once I get all my gear on my truck.

    Yes.
If @ChadsPride wants to set something up some weekend I'm free. I'd be happy to do a BBQ / Radio / Lunch and learn.

I could bring some of the desktop radio stuff out too. Like my APRS Receiver station.
