    Running boards
On August 15th I bought a new 2018 Tacoma. One week later I had the chrome running boards installed. I got them because I am 5'7" and wanted to have a step into the truck. They are 17" off the ground. They are only about 2" below the floor inside the truck. Instead of helping, they have made it more difficult to get into the truck as I now have to step over them. I am VERY frustrated because I went to the dealer and asked if they could be lowered and he said it was not possible. He said they have been that way since 2005 and he has heard the same complaint a thousand times. Made me wonder if Toyota listens to it's customers? Does anyone else have a solution? Had I known I would have bought a different vehicle. I also am not crazy about the transmission as it seems to me the truck is always search for a gear. Right now I am having buyers regret. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to TW! Maybe check with the dealership to see if they would take them back so you can get the aftermarket option you prefer.

You could also buy a new set and sell your factory ones,it’s pretty easy to sell stuff here as long as you follow the guidelines. I personally wouldn’t try to extend the brackets because you might compromise the integrity or weaken them.

The transmission bothered me too so I searched around on here and found a thread about a service bulletin 0062-18. This week I took my truck in with a printed off bulletin for them, it took about an hour to complete and it drives like a totally different truck. The shifting is much smoother while accelerating and decelerating. Give it a try, it's free and made a huge difference. Welcome to TW!
