I sometimes tow a trailer and when going up hills I put in in S3 to keep it from shifting between 3rd and 4th. I am unable to set the cruise control. Does anyone know of a way to make it work?

The manual states that cruise can be set when in D or a range of 4 or higher in S mode is selected.

Don't use cruise when towing. Well, unless you are on flat ground with no crosswind and no other vehicles are around. Then you can use cruise a minute or two to rest your foot.
