Wow this thread blew up. I am considering ordering a super charger and getting the ov tune programmer. Would I still need the TRD tune before being able to flash the computer? Would I be able to install the super charger and program the computer with out going to Toyota first?

I am interested in doing this to be able maintain gears better while towing and general highway driving. Too bad we can't program the cruise control to stop being so aggressive in shifting. Another pro to the super charger is the added range between gas stations. There is no easy option to get a bigger fuel tank.

 

If you think adding a supercharger will get you better mpg's you're not doing it right.

 

This. In theory it might give you better mpg, if and only if you can keep your foot off the far right pedal. Good luck with that

1. Do you have to get Toyota to flash the ECU to the TRD tune before I can use OVtune?
   
2. Is there a way to make the peddle less sensitive to down shifting?

I am fully aware that I can get less MPGs with this upgrade, but I am just trying to get the best way to add range while traveling. The equation to the range is below.

(total miles) = (gallons of Gas) * MPG I'm getting about 174.06 = 18*9.67. Reading about others who installed the S/C for towing they are now getting between 11.5-12.5.

If I can get 12mpg that gets me to 216 miles. Granted that is only 42 miles but its almost an hour added between stops. This is also an easy bolt on option vs trying to get the larger fuel tank for now. Also the pro to doing the S/C vs. the larger tank is the s/mile increases as well as the miles per gallon. Picture below of what I am towing.

 

Just run a hose to that Love's tanker. I would think that would be all the range anybody needed.

 

The s/c will 100% not extend your range while towing. I used to tow a 20' toy hauler and would get anywhere from 4-8 mpg max depending on how flat or hilly the drive was. I believe my record low "range" was 86 miles between a full tank and the light coming on. Granted that was a lot of uphill and I tow at 70-75+

 

Mine gets 13 MPG. Not towing anything.

 

I'm getting 16 MPG with OVTune 93 in mostly city driving. No armor. And I drive it like I stole it.

 

Jealous as hell.
I'm N/A 91 tune I'm at 12.5 ish city driving east.

 

What mods do you have besides the SC and what size pulley?

 

Saying that 100% you will not get better mileage is strong stance. I try to stay between 65-70 mph and get right at 10 mpgs. Later today ill try and link in all the other posts of people getting better mileage. I totally get you can get worse mileage but even people on here are reporting higher MPG than pre S/C. Lifes not about being the first to sit at a red light.

 

2.5 Pulley, AFE Pro Dry, DTST Headers, URD Y-pipe, TRD catback, 76mm TB, 255 DW w/stock 455 injectors, FPR, restrictor jet removed

 

I'm not saying don't do it. I absolutely love my sc. and he extra power will certainly help with towing. I just wouldn't plan on getting better mileage. My trailer was usually 5500-6000lbs when I towed, so maybe that's why my best was 8mpg, and the addition of ovtune would certainly have helped. Maybe could've gotten closer to 10.
