Here is the pattern for a second gen cover plate:
    Tailgate Cover - 2nd Gen.jpg
Ask for the 1/8 thick 6061 diamond plate - if they offer the weaker stuff - argue.... Use the plastic cover to layout the holes - then use Rivnuts to tie it to the steel structure. I put another set of Rivnuts across the middle to get a bit more grip.
    Dressing the cover.jpg
    Dressing the rough edges....
    Installing Inserts.jpg
Put an extra row of screws across the middle.......
    Fully Installed.jpg
Finished - now I need to design the cap......Stainless Button Hd Screw.png These button head stainless screws won't snag your loads.

My tailgate bent by putting at 4 wheeler in it, it was so bad that the paint cracked off, me and my father pushed it back into shape and welded a steel plate on the top. This fixed the weakness, but until I fix the cracked off paint it looks pretty bad lol

Relentless Fab all the way! I picked up an aluminum one from him just weeks after buying my new truck. Four years later and I have nothing but good things to say.

I really like the look but I'm not sure I have all the tools necessary. If I had access to all my tools at work it would be fine, but I work on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico so it really makes transportation difficult.

I got the relentless fab as well just for peace of mind when transporting my dirt bike. Overall I’ve been pleased. I like the fact that it’s flat and metal so i can put a small grill on it without worrying about meltage and when I put my beer down I don’t have to be precise in my placement so as to not knock it over like you have to be with the grooved stock tailgate cover. It did take a long time to ship however.

Thanks. Lead times do vary depending on stock status and when you may have ordered. In stock usually ships in a few days, out of stock we're often at the powder coaters' mercy as for lead times. I have lots of bare on the shelf almost all the time.

No worries man, like I said overall very pleased with the product. I wasn’t bent outta shape about the wait time or anything just wanted to let the OP know it could possibly take a while if time is of concern.

    Glad to hear.

And if there's anyone ordering, or looking to order, that may have a specific timeframe they need a part within feel free to contact us by phone or email and we'll let you know if that timeframe can be met or not, or just for the most accurate lead times. We do list lead times on our site on each product page to give an idea of possibilities, though obviously we strive to ship ASAP after getting an order.

same regret for me with the hardware kit. put the plastic "nuts" back in and used the orig hardware. The plate is great though and nice to have for loading bikes and setting beers on without having them tip over

Have had the steel non-ribbed one under the oem plastic with rivnut hardware installed. No problems whatsoever and 2 people can sit on the tailgate at same time and not worry about it. Heavier to close, oh well, not bent and that makes it worth it. Gitcha one.............

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I have to agree with this. I have had the aluminum Relentless plate for years now and I find it very very strong! I had previously got a hole in my factory top plastic cap when loading my snowmobile and the fact this one goes over and protects that area rather than plastic is great for me!

The new Duramax got a lot of potential - much better than the previous generations. That and an Allison transmission... pretty much bullet proof...

I have the Mobtown skin and cap on my gate, since I haul firewood and the like, and wasn't too sure about the plastic liner.
