About to pull the trigger on a Tacoma. Actually probably this morning. I do a lot of highway driving but occasionally go off road. I prefer the Off road but wonder if for practical purposes if I should get the sport. Looking for opinions from those of you who have either one. Thanks in advance

Welcome to TW! Take thorough test drives in both. Compare the features of both and see which one suites you better.

I would say it will depend on the configuration you want, along with other wants.......say a manual, or packages.....

I have the Sport DCSB with the MT and I love my truck and do highly recommend it. However, you do get more features in the OR for a bout the same price. Overall, as stated drive them - folks say the Sport is stiffer and the OR is cushy ride, I personally enjoy the ride of the Sport, but never drove a OR. Good luck and enjoy your new truck, either way you cannot go wrong!

Here we go again... I have a sport and personally believe it's the better choice for city driving/commuting/daily driver. If you do any off roading I'd probably go with the OR though.

Recently bought an OR, buddy has a Sport. He noticed right away that the OR was a "cushier" ride.

Neither model is going to set speed records on twisty roads, but the Sport might be a tighter ride if the primary use is commuting.

I went OR because this is an occasional use vehicle for me, and I will take it off road.

I drive 120 miles a day. I do very light off roading but love driving in the snow.
I didn’t think I would need crawl control and wanted the SKEWP. I like the look of it. Had it 1-1/2yrs and I couldn’t be happier. I like the color matching trim. The sport had a softer ride on the hwy. Definitely drive both. I went to 6 dealers getting written offers and once I couldn’t get the price any lower I bought the sport.

I had a ‘15 prerunner and my wife said my insurance went higher because it says “SPORT 4x4”. If that’s the case how much more for insurance if it says “off-road 4x4)
    Thanks State Farm!!!

    Did you quote the sr5?
My insurance increase almost $500 for the year from the prerunner. My wife was pissed. Not only did I buy another truck
But my insurance went up. Zero tickets -zero accidents in 15+years.

You seriously need to change your insurance company. My 2018 DCLB TRD OR was $30.00 more to cover than my 2001 Saab 9-5 for six month premium.

The off-road is undoubtedly the better deal. But the sport looks better IMO, and likely handles noticeably better with the much stiffer suspension. Some folks prefer the softer suspension of the OR over the sport though. The sport suspension is quite firm.

Also it appears from the MPG threads (from an unscientific perspective) that the Sport tends to get better MPG.

I would personally go for the Off Road, but that BBP looks terrific regardless of the Tacoma model!

    Sharp truck Bob!

This is the correct answer. I went in with one plan, and changed after test driving.

I see so many people buy a Tacoma and then complain about something like the seat and it makes me wonder if they bothered to take it on a test drive. :D

I don't think there is any question that the Sport is a more accommodating on streets, while the OR is more accommodating on the trails. You need to figure out which is more important to you. If you only OR occasionally the Sport may be a better option. If you think you'll need the enhanced off road features of the OR (lockers etc) and are willing to give up a tinny bit of street handling advantage then go for the OR.

Other factors might be color and feature selections available from your dealer without going through a factory special order which usually negates much price negotiation. If the color and feature set is available in one or the other, this might influence your decision some.

Good luck. I think you'll be happy with which ever model you choose.

True, same with visibility issues and backseat size.

For me, I was thinking Off Road going in, and then realized during the test that I'd have to swap out the suspension for my style of driving. Thankfully the sales guy was listening and knew his product because he suggested I try the Sport, which was perfect for me, suspension wise. Still love the OR, but the Sport is a better fit for me. Let's face it, they are all great trucks, it's just about fit and use.
