Pack the lock where the cable goes in and in the key slot with grease, then make a couple wraps with electrical tape. If you don't, than carry bolt cutters for when you need your spare.

I’m in Denver. My spare was stolen I think in front of my house in University Hills. Hard to say exactly when it was stolen because the bastard raised the chain back up so I didn’t realize it was gone until I was under the truck.

Guess if you steal four spares you'll have a whole set for your truck. :anonymous:

Sorry to hear that. Definitely not cool. I've been watching Craigslist and haven't seen many Tacoma spare wheels being posted, so not sure what they're doing with them...
Toyota makes a spare tire lock, which I bought for $30 piece of mind. I ALSO put a cable lock on for good measure - but will definitely add some grease.

My spare just got stolen in Southern California as well.

They also raised the chain back up so I don't know when it happened, I was attaching a bike rack to the hitch today and noticed I didn't have a spare... This is b.s. man.

I have a '17 TRD OR. I never looked at the spare and noticed if it was a steel wheel or an alloy wheel. If I buy a full size alloy wheel will it fit in the spare slot?

Sorry to hear man, thieves suck. It should fit. My original spare was a steelie, now I have an alloy there.

I have a stainless steel chain and lock on my spare. Now after reading this I will do the same to my Wife's 4Runner tomorrow. :censored: crack heads.

Yeah I'm pretty upset. Time to buy a lock for the spare and wheel locks on all the other ones.

My neighbor who lives right where I park has security cameras up. I wonder if I can talk to him and find footage.

I live in a rural area of far west Texas and just returned from San Antonio after a 3 day meeting. This morning I stopped at the dumpster and heard metal clanging, looked underneath and found my spare was gone. I think I would have heard it on the way back, so I suspect it happened in my drive way. I'll get a lock for the replacement.

Was just washing my truck and noticed mine was stolen as well. I also live in Denver. With all these stolen spares you think they'd be cheaper to replace.

Does anyone know if the Toyota manufactured locking part for the spare actually works?

My guess is the one of the local pot dispensaries accepts tires as payment.

I lived in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood and had a bike, two Adorondek chairs, a car CD player and a ‘87 Monte Carlo SS stolen. As neighborhoods gentrify the crooks go where the good stuff is. I moved west to Wheat Ridge and now have a two car garage.

I live in 5 points/rino in Denver and also had my spare stolen from under my truck. Parked outside off street right by my apartment. Something tells me it happened in the parking lot at the unsafeway though...either way got a lock for the replacement and plan to beef it up with a chain and master lock. Stolen sometime late September early October

Happened to me over the summer. Got a new one from a local member and used a master lock. Ridiculous how many in Denver are getting stolen....

I came out of my house one morning in San Antonio to find my spare tire missing on my 2015 Taco... bunch of freakin savages... replaced it, wrapped a kryptonite motorcycle cable lock around the new tire and frame rail.

    Never happened again.
