I agree with you there! Some are spending entire days in the waiting room drinking stale coffee and stale fake oreos.

I am sitting at Eddy's Toyota in Wichita, KS. After explaining the situation to the service adviser and showing him invoices others have posted, after some initial reluctance, they are flashing the update. :bananadance:

I will try to get an invoice with the details and post it for others. I will report back on my impressions after I put a few miles on it.

Took me an hour. I really can't complain - I took today off from work anyway.

    Good luck.

Let me know how you make out if you do. I called Charlies in Augusta and got the same kind of wishy-washy response over the phone. I'm not confident enough they will do it to drive 2 hours down there and find out.

I didn't mention the TSB at all but they went in that direction anyway. I simply asked them to do a Health Check and if they found an update available to please apply it. The tech wouldn't do it he said it didn't apply to my VIN. I asked for them to show me what the tech was seeing, but they refused. I asked to speak to the manager and they called the tech back and he just reiterated the same thing, doesn't apply to my VIN, so the managers response was, "well he'd be the one that would know". I just left at that point frustrated.

This is exactly why I'm not bringing mine into my local Toyota dealer until there's a TSB.

After a brief drive home (about 15mi), I can say the change is not remarkable on my 2018. If you shift to 2nd and end up around 2000rpms after you release the clutch, there is still a flat spot - that is probably just a characteristic of the engine, not the tune. However, it pulls more smoothly above 2000rpms and it does shift better. At times if used to feel like the synchros were taking a pounding before, and I haven't felt that yet.
Overall, it was an improvement, but honestly I wouldn't be happy if I had spent $170 on a cable just for this. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, the 2018 I test drove was much worse than the one I ended up buying, so it might have made a big difference in that one.

Now I will monitor or my fuel mileage...

post up if anyone in OC,CA got it done and by who. I don't want to waste my time trying to ask for it. Last time I went to the dealer they had my Taco for a week to fix the creaky clutch pedal which ended up being them yanking the pin and greasing it.

Took my truck in today to have the Pre-Collision fault code and the TSB on the “trans stumble “. So they get it done, sensor in the pre-collision system is bad, new one ordered. They said the the update didn’t do anything, but noted that it has a slight stumble in 2nd gear, “normal “ for this vehicle. :annoyed:

Did they apply the update and say they felt no difference or just said the update wouldn't do anything?

If they applied it, you can check the ECU ID in the OBD Fusion app to verify.

Did apply update , but no difference. My truck was built in March , so it’s a pretty new vehicle, possibly corrected in the factory?

The TSB was released in early July. They might have been working on the certification and release maybe a month or so prior to that? In the end, if you have 04A71, then you are as good as it gets.

Yeah, there is still a bit of stumble after the update, but it is a shadow of what it was on my 04B12 2017.

@WaTaco2018 felt some improvement in his?

Is there a way to check to make sure they preformed to recalibration, because the truck drives the same?
