@FreshMexicanTaco is selling some on his site (non-RAM). I and a bunch of other riders have used X Grips for ages. I trust them offroad on a motorcycle and have not been disappointed. The Taco is a no brainer for me.

A lot of people like the X-Grip from RAM, my mount is obviously compatible with that but I just don't like it, I still have it in my glove box but I think its ugly... specially that huge "RAM" sticker in the center.
BUT of course I have to say that because I'm selling the other ones.... so you don't have to trust me just take it as MY HUMBLE OPINION... The one I have on my site works great, it has a very firm grip, is adjustable and it is a ONE HANDED operation. you can put the device in and take it out with one hand, I LOVE THAT and thats something that is not easy to do on the x-grip.

I was looking at video reviews on Amazon last night for the Ram mount. Every video was showing how the Ram mount twisted from side to side. So you phone won't stay in one place. I don't have one so I'm not first hand.

If I am stepping on toes, please let me know and I will delete this post.

In all honesty, the only time my X grips rotate with a phone in it is if I bump it. Yes, the nature of the design does allow it to rotate when the phone is mounted. I just like the simplicity of it and they have worked in every situation that I have tried them (naked motorcycles on and off road, all weather, my sporttourer, my bicycles, and the Taco).

I also feel the RAM sticker is too much. I removed it and replaced it with a plain black foam sticker from Lowes.

    Have a good one.

No you’re not stepping on anything man that’s the beauty of this forum you get all the opinions not just the ones that agree with you.
The x grip might be better for him and others, I bought it too, I just didn’t like it.

Well neither do I. :D They had tons of good reviews on Amazon for the X mount, but there were 5-6 videos of them twisting-turning. I did notice that there are some X mount knockoffs floating around.
I got a couple of mounts from Fresh Taco and they seem to lock tight. Time will tell if they can hold a phone on The Rubicon Trail. :bikewhoops:

For phone mounts in general and short of a collision, the worst case loading is about 1.0g in any direction. That is violent sports car braking and cornering. As long as your not offroading in a bouncer or running the Baja 1000, 1.0g impacts are not really possible.

Since phones weigh just a few ounces, my test is to pull on the phone with about a 1/2lb to 1.0lb of force. That generally covers most all situations other the big vibrations. For vibrations, as long as the pads / pegs are not dirty, phones don't seem to move and they seem to damp out the vibrations really well.

My sporttourer as taken a nap twice with the phone on board. Both were pretty gentle and no issues. I was happy and bummed the one time that I was in an accident (not-at-fault) with my naked sidecar. It was drizzling and I didn't have my typical ziploc along, so the phone was in my pocket. Wanting to dial 911 and in a bit of shock, I was looking everywhere for my phone on the street thinking that it had been in the mount. I wish it had, just to know if it would have rode it out, but was thankful that I didn't have to find out.

On my bikes where I've seen the phone move a bit due to dirty grips, a quick wipe with isopropyl gets everything happy again.

they're offering (last i checked) was no good for the 3g taco. big hog chunk of plastic that 1) doesn't need to be there and 2) is way too expensive for what you get. but i liked them for my last car, a VW.

    I've got a Ram arm and a Hondo holder, whatever it's called. IMG_20180826_201638.jpg IMG_20180826_201820.jpg

Oh yeah. Their Tacoma specific mount is dumb. I was referring to their phone mount. That's what I use on THIS mount and it works great. The AMPS pattern is key to finding mounts. RAM has an AMPS pattern ball, you just add a compatible phone mount and go.

Yes. Both of the mounts I've had/have in my VWs are much better. My Mustang one was pretty bad, though.
