All you guys talking about how many tags you get suck.

In Utah we get one buck tag, and depending on the area you put in you don’t even get one every year, one bull tag, and maybe a cow tag if you draw.

You can get land owner doe tags if you know someone. I’m also sure there’s more options than what I know of but still. Definilty no 7 tags or anything.

It’s how our state does it. But remember our deer look like cute gremlins they are so small. Then you gotta actually find a place to hunt them.

Since your mentioned the tag process. I have always wondered if you like in places like Iowa if you own land if you are guaranteed tags each year. I know you don’t live in Iowa, but that is a state I’m curious about.

It sounds like where you live the tags aren’t guaranteed so maybe it’s the same there also.

Utah, I guess you can get a tag every year depending on where you put in for deer.

There are OTC elk tags also, but the odds aren’t really great on the harvest

I’m a US Army vet so I’m a little bit older (40 yo), and I’m applying to physician assistant school. But anyway, I applied to U of UT. Sounds like a cool school and I’ve heard UT is amazing. Do you think it’s a good school?

My elk hunt is 2 weeks away - nervous af haha
Been shooting great up to 30 yards but then realized I’m not going to be calm on my first hunt. So while retrieving arrows I have been sprinting, doing lunges, or jumping jacks to get my heart rate up. Glad I’m practicing that now because I would’ve been a lot more over the board if I didn’t know how I shot with increased heart rate

adrenaline is different...;) if you have the time wait a minute before shooting, your adrenaline slows down and blood pressure comes down...take a few deep QUIET breaths!

Very good idea man. Exercising and shooting is highly suggested. Can you or do you feel comfortable shooting further? If so, maybe you should try. I understand elk are huge animals, but the more harder practice the better. 30 yards is a reasonable range but in terms of hunting it’s just a lucky scenario if you get a chip shot like that.

I would love to go in an elk hunt one day man! You are lucky as hell!

Truth! I happened to luck out an a cow walked down from the hill towards water...My ground blind has been there for 2 seasons so she didnt even pay any attention to it...she came 21 yds perfect broadside (yes I took the shot and got her)...but yea you are super lucky if you can get close to an animal like that.

21 yards is badass. Nerves will still jack you up for sure but that’s a good distance. I really wanna try elk hunting!!! I watch it all the time on the hunting shows and I know I would love it. Good job bro!!!

oh I was nervous as I never shot an elk with my bow and that close its like hitting the side of a round bale...if you miss that close its time to hang it up;) The trick is to get close to them, they are just as flighty as a deer if not more. and they can run like the wind!

Yeah man. When I watch the shows, even when they call them in they are super sketchy and will bolt quick if they smell you or see the slightest movement.

They are big, but quick as hell. One day I’m gonna set up a hunt with an outfitter or something once I’m more settled and done with my degree and stuff. Til then, whiteatails will see no mercy!!! Lol!

I do love some whitetail killing...I think they are easier than elk. As whitetail eventually come back. Elk may or may not ever come back in a couple weeks...LOL

So it’s an either sex 10 day hunt here in NM. Since it’s my first elk my goal is to kill an elk - probably cow or satellite. Well first goal is to see en elk, second goal is to call in an elk or have one answer me, then third is to kill one.

I can shoot up to 40 but more comfortable under that. I’m hoping I can get in under that.

Well if anyone wants to come to NM for 10 days you can come with! Have no one to go with since it is such a long hunt

God been doing tons of elk research and watching hunts. Excited but nervous since it’s such a big animal

Just picked up a CBE SL4 sight. So far pretty happy. I like how simple it is. Was not happy with my slider sight.
