I just got back from the dealer to try to program a FOB and it turns out that most SR models don't come with the equipment required to do that.

Has anyone had any luck installing keyless entry in their 3rd Gen SR? The dealer wanted to charge me $425 for installing something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Keyless-Entry-System-2016-2017-Tacoma-00016-32901-/262507416538

I'm trying to get a key and fob together to have less things on my keychain - something like this if possible
    https://www.amazon.com/Keyless2Go-H...28&sr=8-18&keywords=keyless+entry+tacoma+2017

Anyone know how I can work this out? Thanks in advanced. :)

The dealer installed that exact unit in my '17 Tacoma SR as part of my purchase agreement. Works perfectly, and falls under the trucks warranty. I believe it's a SE Toyota part that's sometimes port installed.

Thank you! Do you know if you’re able to have a keyfob with that kit as opposed to having key and fob separate?

Do a couple of searches for fair amount of info. I did the fob upgrade from kit purchased from Daytona Toyota...100+ and easy day. Works as intended.

Not that I'm aware of. I have a separate fob, but it's not a big deal. Both on the same key ring.

It was the Viper 3105V and installed by an authorized Viper distributor for the Lifetime warranty (SoundScape, Downey, CA). Install took a little less than 2 hours. I'm real particular about any wiring I do so I inspected their work and it was clean. If I remember correctly, it was $189 out the door.

That's a great price I've had many items installed before at Best Buy and they do very good work...the wiring they did was tight.. I guess I just paid a bit more but it's the same alarm that you had put in ..either way it works great and I'm very happy with it
