So I have a 2015 long bed, and am trying to figure out if a 3rd gen topper will fit?

I have read through numerous posts about a 2nd gen topper fitting on a 3rd gen and how the fitting isn't great.

    Thanks in advance!

No mechanical mods. Minor convience and useability tweaks.
I believe that you will find that the bed dimensions on both the 2nd and 3rd GEN trucks are both identical, however...the 3rd GEN tailgates are have much more curvature than the 2nd GEN. You could put a 3rd GEN canopy on a 2nd GEN truck and the canopy would fit fine, but the liftgate won't close tightly in the center and would look pretty weird. You could change the lift gate to a 2nd GEN version and you'd be golden..but you'll find that it would be cost prohibitive. Keep looking for the correct GEN canopy, used, and pretty soon you'll find what you need.

Find a 3rd gen bed to match and it will all be good.

How about a 3rd gen contractor style canopy? These don’t seem to have a contoured rear hatch? Wouldn’t one of these fit either 2nd or 3rd gen if the beds are the same dimensions?

Define fit. It might sit on the bed and look ok, but most likely leak like a sieve.

No, bed is quite a bit different. A lot tried to fit a 2nd gen on a 3rrd gen. It was a no go.

Thanks. You're absolutely right. I just tried a 3rd gen Tradesman on my '15 DCLB and it sat about and inch + long at the tailgate. I'll keep searching for a 2nd Gen contractors canopy. Seems really hard to find.

I saw an old Dakota the other day with an incorrect cap hanging off the back end. Looked terrible.

I have a 3rd gen DCU on a 2nd gen. It’s far from perfect but it was super cheap so for the time being it will work. I’ll take some pictures so you can see the issues in the next day or so

It’s not quite right gaps at the front and back and I’m pretty sure a fiberglass one would be worse.

It will snug up about 1/2” inch closer to the cab…but that still leaves 1” or more overhang. (Don’t do it).
