I have a rock chip on my tail gate.. How is this possible?

the other day, i was driving on the freeway and i heard what it sounded like a rock hitting metal on the rear of my truck, but i figured it was the underside of my tacoma..

turns out when i was washing my truck, i found a rock chip on the lower side of my tailgate.

Anybody else with the same experience?

Freeway driving throws up all kinds of rocks... I've seen them bouncing in both directions up and down the lanes, especially behind trucks. They already have forward momentum coming out of the truck (60-70mph)... couple of bounces and they're onto you. My favorites are the ones that come from the oncoming lanes and bounce over the divider.. fun!

I've heard of this before, it's called HSIBD, or High Speed Involuntary Backwards Driving. Happens to me all the time. The real question is how the hell did I get all those chips on the roof! Sorry, J/K

I have two or three chips on my tailgate too and have NO clue how that happens. My tailgate is never down either so it makes no sense! I'm thinking HSIBD may be the culprit for sure!

My best guess is someone passed you , a rock flicked off a tire from the top (so the rock went foreward and faster) . Thats just one of those theories with no real world testing or experience though lol

My side got raped by some jackass doing in a burnout in a gravel parking lot while I was paddling. Could have been from someone pulling out of a similar spot.
