    Hello all,

Been searching the internet and forum for a while now and am unable to find the information I'm looking for!

I run a stock 2004 Pre Runner TRD, can I upgrade my tire size from 265/70/R16 to 265/75/R16 and keep the front mud flaps??

I read everywhere that Yes Yes it's possible with slight rub at wheel wells this and that etc etc.. but all the pictures have the flaps missing... (obvisoly rub on flaps is differnt than rub in wheel well, maybe this is the confusion?) I'd like to keep the front mudflaps! So what is the minimum lift requirement to run 265/75/R16 and be able to keep the front mud flaps without rub? Is it even possible to run a larger tire and keep the front mud flaps? Even with a lift??
EDIT* specifically 265/75/R16 bfg K02 tires
    Thank you in advance!

I'm running KO2 in 265/75/16, I have a second generation though. My front right tire started to rub on the mudflap, but a bit of trimming (thanks to @Jamesboy2233), and rubbing is gone.

Maybe a leveling spacer to the front will avoid rubbing, don't take my word for it.

Yea, I'm fine with leveling out the front, planning on upgrading the suspension very soon, but would like to keep the mud flaps in the front while keep lowest lift possible

depending in your tire and wheel offset, it should be fine. Even though I don't have mudflaps (never had them, actually), that's not where I rubbed anyway. I run the KO's in a 263/75r16.

See on the frame right above my boy's head. You can see the rusty rub mark (stock height) and the shiny mark (1" lift via 5100s).

You're getting frame rub with those tires and a 1inch lift? Is this at full turn only?
I was under the impression a 1 inch lift would be 100% okay it terms of frame rub with those tires.
It appears you're using aftermarket A - arms too.. maybe this is contributing to the rub?

Really want to know if the mud flaps will rub using those tires at stock height vs 1 inch lift height

That pic is from when I was installing those UCAs and coilovers. that rub was when it was 100% stock, and then with 5100s. Yes, it would only rub at full lock, so it would only happen occasionally in parking lots.

If you were in the Sac area, I'd I'd offer you to come over and swap wheels/tires to see if it rubs.

Ah I see. Thanks I’m located in Petaluma. My brother has those tires on his tundra I might just swap with his but I still wouldn’t have the 1inch lift to fully know! I know for sure the 275/75/r16 will rub on the flaps at stock height - The test would be to see if it rubs on flaps at 1inch lift height.. but I appreciate the offer.

Honestly I’d probably run 265/70/r16 ko2’s if needed in order to keep the flaps.. tbh I think the Tacoma’s look great at stock height.. main problem is hose tires are like $50 more bucks a pop.. which seems a little obscure

Do you noctice any difference in performance/mpg with the 265/75/r16 over the 265/70/r16 ? BFG ko2 apparently is one of the few tires they make in a LT265/70/R16

I couldn't tell you a difference, I've had these tires since day 1. But I would imagine there isn't much of a difference - there's only a slight difference in size. The main thing you'd notice is going from something like a C load to an E load. The E loads are much heavier. But I've NEVER gotten a flat or even worried about a flat with the E loads...

You could always just fab up a bracket that mounts the flaps under/behind the fender well, instead of on the inside.

Nice. Yeah heavier weight.. and added rotational mass (like during acceleration) id imagine requires a lot more energy than just an extra, say 15 lbs, dry weight per tire. If that makes sense.
Though this probably has a greater deficiency on a 4 cylinder than the 6 cylinder - so could be negligible up to a point?

I agree the peace of mind of not getting a flat or being concerned about it is worth the higher E load.

I currently use P265/70/R16 Michelin a/t tires which are super badass and great I love them (haven’t had a flat yet) but I’ll probbaly make the conversion to an E load when they’re worn for the increased durability.

Mounting a bracket further back is definitely an option for increasing the tire size (this would probably be last resort)
I was hoping it could be accomplished As Is with a 1/2” or 1” lift in the front - hoping someone has done this and can verify before I go get a 1inch lift and sure enough tire rubs on the mud flap! Lol
