So, looks like the Big 12 might dissolve. There are lots of different ways this might play out but what are your thoughts?

Colorado jumped ship... looks like OU, UT, TAMU, TT and OSU are going next.

I figure NU and MU will go to the Big 10 and KU and KSU go to the Big East. I'd figure Baylor and ISU could hook up with the WAC, MAC, or Mountain West.

The Big 12 has a terrible TV deal, and it is not distributed evenly among the schools as in the PAC-10 and BIG-10.

Last year, Texas got the majority of the TV revenue -- which was just over $10M. By comparison, Illinois got $19.9M.

Nebraska is supposed to announce tomorrow they are going to the Big 10. Mizzou might be out, and it's possible they and the remainder of the Big 12 (KU, KSU, ISU, Baylor) merge with Conference USA.

    Yep.

But without it, you don't have sports like track, wrestling, softball, gymnastics, swimming, etc.

Your spectator sports pay the way for the others to have good programs.

Also -- you have to look at the institutions within the conference, and how they share research revenue and grants.

Believe it or not, academics actually play a larger role in how conferences align, because there has to be a diverse crop of research money flowing to the entire conference -- you can't have all your schools excelling in biology and competing for the same grant money.

You also have to be of similar accreditation, because you're faculty has to work together on lots of projects, and the criteria needs to be cohesive amongst all participants.

    imo:

    1. If Texas goes, so goes the 12. If Texas stays, the 12 has the potential to become a power conference if it could pull in Boise State (football), Utah (football), Houston (basketball[?]), and (wow...it would be awesome) Arizona and Arizona State. Air Force and BYU could also be solid additions.

    2. Colorado...who cares where Colorado goes; they bring nothing to the table.

    3. Nebraska...they're gone (prediction based on pure speculation); great fans, and a football program on its way back up (hopefully).

Missouri isn't going anywhere (unless I'm wrong, in which case they're gone:cool:).

    ^ x2

Fun, and scary for KU and KSU (Missouri Valley Conference...NO!!)

If KU went to the Big East (a possibility I read here, and elsewhere), it would be great...but I doubt it.

hahah i knew i'd get that with the bball (Kentucky is just about the only team that is good) But year in and year out the SEC has soooo many good teams football wise. Sure there are really great teams outside of the conference but nobody has teams top to bottom that are as good as the SEC.

    Also bkeith...your sig is AWESOME!!

Thanks man! Yeah, Kentucky is a great team. I'm a KU fan...so I can't speak much to football...especially since Mangino's gone (sad really, because Perkins [KU's athletic director] announced his retirement today; and, I suspect [again, based on nothing but pure speculation] that Perkins had something to do w/Mangino's departure).

Anyway, this realignment sh!t is driving me crazy!:goingcrazy:

I really think if the Big 12 disolves, as I now expect it to... KU and KSU go to big east. They could also take MU and ISU and then they would be at 12 teams.

OU, OSU, UT, TAMU, TT go to the Pac-10 and for Super Conference. Baylor joins the open spot in the WAC or maybe Conf-USA.

After digging on the sports forums for a while, I tend to agree with you, sooner. I kind of wish someone else would swoop-up ISU though...they would be another mouth to feed in the BE, which could be filled by a school with superior academics and sports.

Anyway, if KU and KSU went to the BE, it would become the best BB conference by far...we'll see.
