Yeah stock springs on the Billy’s....

Don’t need a winch, just want the bumper. They have an aluminum option, that would be lighter. Would that negate the need for different springs?

@Sandman614 is my mod guy so if he thinks he can help me do it and it’s not too expensive I’ll get whatever I need to do the bumper right.

I can’t make any decision until at least Thursday when I have another estimate with the insurance company and I’ll know (and hopefully be handed the check) the amount I’m getting

 

Aluminum would likely negate the need for new springs. But typically aluminum is really expensive and hard as hell to fix any damage that may happen.


Just things to think about. Not trying to talk you in or out of anything. Just playing devils advocate haha.

Steel is the best way to go. You can get raw steel and rattle can paint your bumper to save some money.

Springs aren’t too tough to do as long as you have some basic tools and a spring compressor— at least another vehicle to run your strut assembly to a shop to swap out new springs. I’ve always took the gamble on the autozone spring compressors but boy will they make you cringe

 

You really think a bumper would make a difference with height? Genuinely curious.

 

So weights vary quite a lot depending on what you want like full hoops, front with braces, front w/o braces, just the bumper, alum vs steel. I would recc. Upgrading the stock springs to at least the OME 885s (I think that's right) but @Sandman614 would know better. I know there are a bunch of the OME springs that are the same rate but just different lengths. This is something to consider in which notch you want to use on those Billies. The aluminum is still a fair bit heavier than all the stock stuff taken off so may still sag some. Also can change the springs on the truck in like an hr or so no need to go to a shop or rent the tool. Plus I got the tool and if ever Timmay wants to borrow it I can get it to him.

 

Where at?

 

Yes just adding my bumper with no winch and the heavier springs that the 6112s come with it lowered my front end about 1/8". With the lighter weight stock springs adding ~90 extra lbs min. to the front it'll sag quite a bit my guess is somewhere around 1/2"+.

I guess I should have measured mine. I can’t tell a difference after adding IFS, sliders, and slimline all powder coated. Now bed bars and rtt.

 

I wheel with Timmay! Good dude and knows more about the OME springs than I do. I went a different route and am more in the know of the Bilstein 6112 stuff. Don't lie though the only reason you get him to do your mods is his smoked goodies!

Just make sure you get the right springs for the weight you will be carrying even if you don't install it until the bumper you don't want to have to buy twice.
