Replacement led exterior lights.

Hi there, I am looking for some help from someone with first hand experience in a subject. I am looking to just replace the bulbs in all of my exterior lights to led, are you able to do that without replacing the ballasts? I just want to swap the bulbs, another concern I have is the when you swap led to these ballasts, that they do not warm up enough and you can run into problems with them icing over, I live in Minnesota.

I appreciate any help with these questions. I just can't seem to find a definitive answer on here.

what do you mean by ballast? The wiring harness? Ballasts only come with HIDs so you can just do a bulb replacement with LEDs.

That said you may need to find some with resistors otherwise your turn signals will hyper blink, thinking a bulb is out.

 

The only led lights that I know of which will require ballasts will be your headlights and fogs. The others should be just simple bulbs. Not sure about the bulbs having enough resistance to work properly.

LEDs don’t use a ballast. Only HIDs do. All LEDs are straight plug and play and sometimes come with a mountless in-line driver.

 

My XHP50 lights came with what looks like a ballast that connect to the LEDs. Is that for resistance?

 

That’s an in-line driver which connects to factory wiring. Should be plug and play.

Ballasts typically use an upgraded harness and wire in much differently. Battery to a harness, then the harnes with relay is wired to single factory harness, and the ballasts. Then bulbs are plugged into the ballast. Slightly more involved.

Did the T20's hyper blink?

 

No hyperflash or strobing

 

And these are for the turn signals?

 

The one-star review on those is mine. Lasted a few weeks and died. They may be fine as turn-signal-only, but as DRL’s not so much. ymmv.

Oh, and tried to contact the seller to get a replacement set. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. If you’re outside of the thirty day Amazon return window, you’re screwed.

 

I used the Amber's for turn signals, and the whites as reverse lights.

 

I put led’s in my front turn signals and needed a resistor. The reverse and plate lights were plug and play.
