Sport comes with skid plates. Two. I think they are the same as the OEM skid plate on the OR. I replaced the OEM with a TRD skid plate which of course requires the removal of the air dam.

Well I haven’t decided what I wanted to do yet. Much to the dismay of the dealer. I went up there today but it was a mad house. I didn’t want to wait. Maybe later this week.

I’m leaning towards the off road only because I like the way it looks. Like most I only go off road a handful of times per year, but even at 43 I want to look cool. Thanks again for all your input and opinions.

Probably. But I have taken it on a few longer drives and it did get better MPGs.

If you spend more that 80% of your time on asphalt this is your Tacoma. A manual tranny would seal the deal.

Airjammer I agree. However not with the manual. Most people report less gas mileage with the MT then the AT. Otherwise I would without a doubt.

Again, going by the many MPG threads on this forum, the sport definitely seems to get better mileage for many. Obviously that's not scientific at all, but it's a common theme in almost every MPG thread.

How much of a loss in MPG are most people reporting?

From what I’ve seen about 3mpg. Mainly because of the gearing. I guess technology has come far enough to make AT more efficient.

They are rated the same from Toyota so I'm guessing in the MPG threads they are probably less modified, but no big deal.

Stock OR vs stock Sport, the Sport will edge out on MPG. Wind dam and street tires help here. (although I've removed my air dam and see zero change in mpg)

I think maybe the OR boys tend to change tire size and add lifts more so than the Sport group. And of course this affects mpg in a big way.

I chose the OR over the Sport because of the added features that you get for virtually the same price. Just my 2c

I chose the OR mainly because of this panel :burnrubber::

I think you answered your own question. You get so much more for almost the same price. Plus if you do test drive both models, you will find the Off-Road a smoother ride. Gas mileage is almost the same.

    D-ring tie-downs.
I chose the OR DC. The OR has more versatile tires from the factory. No real urgency for extra expense there. Living on a hill in western PA the the locking diff and 4x4 options helped when I had an OR Access Cab. The ride in the OR DC truck is very good.

    Factor in:
Gearing, driving style, tire size (rolling resistance) roof racks, payload, geography.

    2-3 mpg is nominal.
