It's for your rear parking sensors. If you turn them on, your truck will beep if it gets close to something

That button is to activate the wireless charging pad for your cell. Pad is located in compartment below the buttons and has the same p symbol on it

If you have sonar sensors they are always on unless you turn them off. Not the the other way around.

The button to the RIGHT of ECT (in the above pic) is the Parking sensor activation button.

The wireless charging button looks like this:

The P is for parking sensors. The q is for the wireless charging.

I’m really surprised the salesman didn’t explain all this to the OP before leaving. Mine tried, but I was like, yeah yeah, gimme the keys so I can go home and fend off a knife to the head from my wife ....

Why? Mine didn't explain a damn thing inside my truck, never volunteered it. To be fair though, I never asked. I just did like nobody seems capable of doing anymore, and read the owners manual. ALL the buttons on the dash are explained.

I guess dealers have different rules/standards when delivering a vehicle. My salesperson explained just about everything to the point I couldn't absorb it all. He even paired my phone for me. That said, I still find myself going to the manual to clarify things. Especially confusing for me was the Traction Control Modes which still sends me to the cheat-sheet now and again.

I showed things to my salesman about my truck when I bought it. Absolutely clueless on the BDSM and a new (new then) switch for the power rear window. Some are good at the tech...some ain't.

Kind of like my mom...she is scared of her microwave.

My dealer had a checklist of things to show me. I told him that ain't happening and signed it for him so he wouldn't get in trouble. Gimme the key and I'm gone.

Yes they are. I read most of it also, But my salesman tried to explain TSS and everything pertinent to the truck to me. I told him I’ll read the manual but I gotta go! And left.

Every time you necropost, God kills a kitten...

That, and you're incorrect on the function of the button referenced in the OP in May 2016.

If your salesman didn’t give you a proper demo of your car after you just spent $30K+, I seriously hope you trashed them on the survey from Toyota Corporate... coming from a previous salesman.

Yeah, I thought it was a requirement for them to at least tell you the controls and what the buttons do.
