I took my new truck in yesterday Only 400 miles for the whistling noise while AC is on, dealer said “noise coming from intake manifold under different load throttle condition” we hear this all the time, I’m like why I can’t dublicate this while AC is off, then after coming back home I start reading other tacoma owners have same problem, is it possible to post a picture of your repair item so we can show it to our dealer?

They replaced my entire air-conditioning system. Your compressor is low on oil. Your dealer needs to put more oil in it. If you keep driving it and use the AC while the oil is low, there could be potential problems in the future. Have your service guy contact me at (916)531-0011 and I will explain it to him. Thanks.

By the way, since mine was repaired last Tuesday, I haven't driven it every day with the air on and there is no noise.:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:.

Mine has done the odd whistle noise while accelerating with the A/C on since day one. I figured it was just another Tacoma quirk, but now that I know different I will be giving my dealer a call.

Do you have part numbers or anything for the fix they did?

They replaced the entire air-conditioning system. No issues now. Besides the compressor, other parts need oil. Since it was ran with low oil, mechanical issues could develop in the system later. That is why they did the whole system.

@smatranga - any new status on this? Still all fixed or has the sound returned? Could you perhaps share the ticket number from the dealer? That'd be useful in talking to my dealer.

Yep. Same here. I went in to detail with my service guy. Even played a recording of it.
When it does it, I flip off the AC. Noise stops immediately.
Service guy says he’s not heard of this before. (I call bullshit). He didn’t even want to try to replicate it. Said “unless Toyota issues a corporate order to fix, there’s nothing they can do. The alternative is having them tear my dash apart to satisfy me, and have noises and rattles from here on out.

Anyone is able to get this fixed can they post a ticket # or repair order, I don’t think the dealer or Toyota is going to take tacoma World forum posts in consideration when arguing about a fix

Hey I'm having the same issue as well, it's hard to explain the noise. But the faster the fan turns the louder it gets. I took my truck in for its 15k mile maintence and told them about it. They said that they don't hear a rattling at all. I just made it clear that I hear the noise and as long as it kept working that I'd stay happy... But yeah I'm right there with you on that noise as well

Guys, I don't have a ticket number. The noise is gone completely. Have your dealer contact Michael's Toyota in Fresno and ask for the Service Manager. He knows about the issue.

Don't except the run-around. Take the shop foreman for a drive and show them. Sooner or later they will have to issue a service bulletin

I called Toyota corporate and schedule to check other tacomas. I sat in three different 2018 tacomas, brand new, and they all had the noise (air moving through evap valve or w/e they wrote).

I dont really know what I could do at this point besides express my unhappiness with Toyota.

Also the service guy said it was a common problem on only 2018 tacomas

Dude there is a bunch of personal info on there. I would remove it, you could just screenshot and paint over your info.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. Black out the Vin, your phone number, and address.... Any picture that I post of my truck, I still typically black out the license plate.

My 17 makes the whistling noise at speed. Gonna see what the dealer can do.

Gentlemen, I posted and took down the service tag due to personal information contained in it. Call Michael Toyota in Fresno, CA and talk to the Service Manager or Shop Foreman. They will confirm. I haven't had any further noise. Of course, it's winter. I am confident the problem is repaired.
