Lift question - bilstein 5100 with stock coils?

Is that notch 3 of 4 on Bilstein 5100’s? I want to level my front end and also avoid doing ECGS bushing

Why get the adjustable and set it at a zero setting and use the coil for the lift? Is it wrong to set the shock at the highest setting and use by the coil?

I think that's only for select trims such as 2wd and long bed trims both double cab and long bed.

Cv joints don't extend, they change angles. UCAs don't have bushings.
I'm riding on the 4th notch with stock coils and the ride feels the same as stock height/stock shocks. Considering going up to 5th notch

I meant you were right- from Headstrong’s tech specs:

• 5th notch = 2" (5th notch not recommended for 4x4 V6/4cyl Access Cab or 4x2 V6 Double Cab 6' bed)

 

Wait, so 4x4 double cab shortbed models are good to use the 5th notch then right? I was referring to this as well.

Seems like 4x4 both V6 and 4 cylinder access cabs can't use 5th notch. Nor can 2wd V6 double cab long beds.

 

Well, back when I bought my 5100’s from Headstrong and spoke about it with Marie in person, I was under the impression that it wasn’t recommended for my 2017 OR DCSB 4x4 either, so I only set it at the 3rd notch. Anyways, one should call them and talk with Marie before doing it, because that was over a year ago and there have been some updates since then.

 

The 5100 directions that came with the shocks also indicated that they werent recommended to be set that high on a Tacoma, but it didnt specify model option type.

 

I’ve got the stock coils and 3rd notch “1” or so lift but settled at least 1/2” with light winch and semi bumper at 150lbs.

Rides great on pavement, gravel and fire roads, more extreme off road not sure.

 

They do really well on rough- I have yet to test mine out on Racetrack Playa Road in Death Valley, though. Its a long dirt road with miles of washboard that eats shocks alive by making them overheat and melt. Lookup Tacoma vs Ridgeline Racetrack Death Valley on YouTuber, the yellow Billys on the Tacoma were destroyed.

 

By over extending I meant over drooping, the CV drops far enough and can be encouraged to come out of the differential as well as operate at an angle that can damage the clam shell bearing.

And you are correct in the catching that I also mis-said it when I referred to the bushing being a limiting factor. I meant to refer to the ball joint. I type replies too quickly and don't reread them sometimes. The joint is not a bushing in that its sole purpose doesn't dampen or support the moving parts.

UCAs though, yes they do have bushings.
