    I forgot about this little bitch. It was rusted on so bad I had to pull out my propane torch to heat it up to get it off. A little tip if yours is a pain.

    I thought of this this morning, how much transmission fluid did you buy/use? I got my issues on the daily figured out so may start to tackle this project Monday but I forgot about the "fluid flush." Going with OEM because well brand new rack

    I just got toyota power steering fluid. I’m not running transmission fluid in the steering system. The large bottle is a little more then a quart but I only used 1/2 if that.

    Yes the system can use ATF but I went with toyota power steering fluid.
    I asked the toyota parts guy when I bought it and that’s what he gave me. :notsure: I’ll show it to Brian tonight and see what he says.

    It does call for dex3. :notsure: I'm pretty sure I'm using the Valovline Max life in mine.

    Going to toss in a new pump and add a cooler at some point here soon, so maybe I'll reevaluate then.

    I found an air hammer will zip that off in no time flat. The first time I swapped the rack I was trying to get that stupid thing off for like an hour before I figured that out.

    Let me talk to the Yota Oracle. I’ll let you know what he says about the fluid. I’m now thinking the fluid the parts guy gave me is for newer vehicles. Never know for sure.

    @BYJOSHCOOK
    Yeah with that little piece that is a bitch to get off. Use what you have and it’s going to challenge you for sure. So be patient.

    With the huge caveat that I'm certainly no expert..... I think ATF and power steering fluid are both just hydraulic fluid so it makes sense to me that they would use the same thing.
    Maybe the fluids have other properties I'm not aware of though :notsure:

    I asked Brian about the fluids. He just said the power steering fluid I got is good. He the ATF is fine also. The benefit that the ATF has is that the ATF has some detergents in it. But that's all he said. He was busy working on my alignment. So it's fine using either one.

    Think I need to change the fluid in my ps. It kinda loud since the new rack. I used the stuff from the parts store that says for Asian cars.

    Yeah my pump was fine until I changed the rack then it started making noise. Maybe it just likes dirty oil. In the past I’ve used what Brett uses the Valovline max life ATF with a shot of Royal Purple power steering fluid to top off. Those been fine. The small bottle I got from toyota was 35.00 but this dealership charges top dollar but it’s right around the corner from work so I pay for convince of location.

    Took the truck to get an alignment done by @thefatkid Truck drives nice and straight. But he did say I was having excess air in the reservoir indicating there’s something wrong. He had a spare pump I can borrow. This morning as I was taking apart the pump to put his on. I found that the main hose was loose. So I tightened it down and refilled the pump. But that didn’t help. Still a lot of air and noise. I removed my pump and put his on. Noise is gone and no bubbles in the reservoir. Time to buy a pump within the next couple of weeks. I haven’t driven the truck yet but it seems to be doing good now. Pic for shits and giggles.

    @Gramps :thumbsup:

    Not much done today. Ran new power wires for the amp and DSP. I used my old battery cable. Even though it’s over kill it’s what I had. Also made a mount for the fuse holder for the amp. Still need to add an in-line fuse for the DSP.
