Transporting Bicycles, What do you use?

Actually, I just looked at the video again and it looks like the wrench might not be a standard allen wrench. Can anyone verify?

 

As with anything, if a thief sees something that you own and thinks they deserve it more than you, they are more than likely going to try and find a way take it.

This mount seems to make that as difficult a task as possible. I cant think of a way that you could lock the mount to the truck........

Let me say first that I have no affiliation with Rocky Mounts. I just wanted to say that the RM Clutch SD's are a fantastic product and that the guys over at Rocky Mount are top notch. Their Customer service is excellent!!! My mount locks failed and my Quick Releases started to bind.... mostly my fault. I emailed the customer service dept and they sent me out a pair of new Quick Releases and locks same day no question asked. They definitely stand behind thier product. On a side note, give them a spray of WD 40 once in while!!!

Works great for shuttling 5 DH bikes, but also great for just one or two bikes.

 

1) This guy seems like a big tool! lol
2) The skewer has to be removed to access the bolts, so shouldn't be a problem
3) If you look at the wrench, the ends you can see are not standard allen, but is a torque wrench.

I'm excited to get this in!

 

Actually, the Clutch SD mounts are attached with torx bolts, not allens. You can't access them if your bike is attached and the locks are engaged.

When the bikes aren't mounted, I don't see a way to secure the device where it can't be stolen.

Has anybody used these mounts on the side rails? I have a toolbox....

 

Not sure about anyone else, but the video has the skewers backwards IMO. The locking/clamping end should face towards the outside of the bed not towards the middle. In the middle makes you have to climb in the bed to work them. Why would you wanna do that? Just so somebody wanting to take it has to climb in the bed? If it's locked then doesn't matter. Face the locks towards outside of bed so you can flop the bike up and in, clamp it down & lock it while standing beside the truck.

 

I think this is a personal preference thing...

I have mine facing out, but am considering flipping them to face in since i usually jump in the bed of the truck with the bike, then remove the front wheel, then put the bike on the fork mount.....In this case, having the lock on the inside makes it more accessible...

 

Guess so, just seems easier to me to take the wheel off, flop the bike up and on mount then lock it down then put the front wheel in and save the climbing for the trail. Past a certain point it doesn't matter tho.

 

So, what is everyone doing with their front wheel when the bike is on the mount?
Put it in the cab? Let it float around in the bed? Did you make some mounting system to hold it stable in the bed?

 

I just put it in the cab if it's the road bike but the krusty mt one I just lay down in the bed. The bedmat keeps it from moving. If 2 bikes then we usually just lean them in the floor of the bed resting on the wheel humps and then against each other on the floor.

 

good question - I was wondering this myself.

 

One thought i had, was mounting one of these into the bed rail between my two racks, but it only allows for 1 wheel, however if i mount the bikes way over to the outsides of the bed, there may be room for two of these in the middle.....

I use a Yakima Doubledown 4. Quick and easy set up before hittin the trails.

 

for now I am still using my hitch mouted Saris Thelma 3. I bought this prior to owning my Taco. I like it for its strength to weight ratio and my wife has no trouble hooking it up.
