Ok... so it looks like HAM is probably the way to go. Next question. When I'm looking at CBs, I know Cobra, Uniden, and Midland are pretty much good to go. I'm looking at vehicle based HAM units on Amazon and have no fookin clue what I'm looking at, or what brand is even decent.

For basic Ham you need something that uses at least the 144MHz band as that's what everyone is going to be using. As far as brand Yeasu is the one that always comes up for recommendations, Icom I know makes really good home stations, but not sure about their mobile stuff (Amazon reviews seem pretty positive), Motorola and Kenwood also seem to be decent options. For handhelds the Yeasu FT-60R is the model that has been recommended to me from like 5 different people now but it runs about $150-180. The BaoFeng handhelds are popular because they are super cheap, but I've heard pretty mixed things about them, some swear by them and others have had them fall apart after a year. I've been looking at a Yeasu VX-6R for a handheld because it's submersible, and I can take it kayaking.

Would a 144mhz single frequency with 65 watt output be what I am after? Yeasu and Icom both make something like that.

I was just reading around and it seems like most every single band radio will do simplex (radio to radio on the same frequency) and duplex (transmit on one channel to a repeater, and listen to the repeater output on another channel), but lots of people prefer a dual band radio that also does the 440MHz band as some repeaters use that. I'd say if you want to go cheap single band is the way to go, but if you want more options and don't mind spending a little extra dual band can give you more options. The output power is going to give you range.

Not enough to have a build thread.
Not sure what gen you have but I know the first gen dakars are side specific to tackle that taco lean

Just saw you have a first gen. Unfortunately I think the part number is under the bumps so you have to pull your ubolts to see if they're installed on the correct side

I took a quick look and snap some photos. Seems I do have the trim packer. But both my Dakar leaf pack has “0” on them next to the front bolt.

I might need to start thinking of other bumper options.

Hit Serpentine Loop today really quick and grabbed food up in Jamestown today with my GF. Even let her drive and tackle the uphill section to get her used to it. EA648810-13CF-4178-96ED-F37A6DC93D18.jpg 61094579-E851-497D-B414-1E3231D10AE6.jpg

All the "0"s mean is it meets with expected norm specs. A "+" would mean it slightly exceeds expected norm specs and a "-" would mean it is slightly below expected norm specs.

At least that is how it was explained to me.

As for left and right, look for the part number - you can't miss it and it is visible installed -

    CS046RA is Driver's Side

    CS046RB is Passenger Side

I drive through Chinese camp on my way to work. Hit me up next time.

    I live in Sonora.

    Where’d you eat in Jamestown?

We just drove through Sonora this weekend too. To our camp spot... and we'll be doing that same drive at least every weekend between now and the end of October... (or the end of 2 deer and 2 bear)

Not sure how far you go up the hill but it was the first time I have been over the pass since the fire. Really sad to see everything burned.
