2nd Gen: Kicker Hideaway w/factory non-JBL headunit

So I finally got my Hideaway hooked up in my 2nd DC with non-JBL system, using the stock HU. I have it wired to the front speakers. It sounds pretty good until I get past about 1/2 volume, as I continue to turn it up the music continues to get louder but the bass starts dropping off the louder I turn it. Maybe it’s not dropping off but the bass isn’t getting any louder as volume goes up. Is this due to the stock HU? Here’s how I have it set right now:

Bass boost: a little over half
Crossover: a little over half
Gain: between 1/2 and 3/4 (5/8th)

 

It’s probably because you don’t have a sound processor and are experiencing bass roll off.

 

Yeah, these radios create lots of bass roll-off (less bass as the volume goes up)

Easiest work-around is to turn the gain up more from where you have it, but turn the volume knob down some. That way, as the radio volume goes up, you can turn the bass knob up to compensate for the bass roll-off

 

I installed the remote bass (gain) knob earlier & have been doing exactly what you said! It works.

 

You can get the AudioControl lc2i that compensates for roll-off, but at $100, it’s a steep price to pay to keep from having to turn the knob

 

I don’t think the LC2i has the bass roll off tech, only the LC7i.

 

They both do. That’s the “AccuBASS”

 

Just noticed that. It’s weird that the LC2i has “accubass” but the LC6i doesn’t.

 

The 2i was created as an LOC to resolve the roll-off issue and give you a bass knob.

The 6i was made just to be a good quality LOC with a bass knob and channel summing.

Once they saw the success of the 2i and had tons of requests for the accubass feature to be added to the 6i, that led to the creation of the 7i

 

Now that this Hideaway is loosening up from breaking in, I'm pretty damn impressed. It'll hit deep lows very well for an 8" sub. It's no 15" but it's not designed to be, either. It's odd but it sounds really good inside the truck but you can't hear it outside the truck. I guess because it's under the DS seat. My buddies stock JBL system you can hear bass outside the truck, no doubt.
