What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

What's causing the unusual "dot to dot" sort of tracks here? I am used to seeing HAZ, but that follows the welding.

Not criticizing the work, just curious.

That's from whatever machine CBI uses to cut their plates (CNC is my guess) it's just a tool mark. Would've come off with a grinder, but I didn't bother since it'll be painted anyway

 

The AFE is reusable/cleanable right? It's worth it then. Air filters are $20-25 piece and I go through them a lot.

 

I need to do this! My plan is to do it when I relocate my rear shocks.

 

Yeah I definitely need it considering I have no fender aprons. My ghetto snorkel did help a little though.

 

You can det drop in afe or k&n reusable filters for the stock location

It's a Leer camper Shell.
Not sure on exact model# - I believe it was designed for the previous generation Toyota pickup truck though it fits rather nicely.
The roof side windows and front windows I was told did not come stock but could be added through the dealer.

I reached out to Leer with the S/N to get the year/model # of it.

 

Thought this was your setup as well. I've been using this in the stock 'cold air intake' (which it is) and am completely satisfied. Haven't bought a paper filter in 4 years

Ran the Coyote Flats trail down to Big Pine in the Eastern Sierras over the weekend...blew out one of my new 33" St Maxx tires. Rounded it on a sharp rock I guess, sliced right through the sidewall...was pretty disappointed, never had an issue with my BFGs despite playing on tons of sharp rocks. Hopefully it was just a freak accident, didn't have any issue with the rest of them but had to run a 32" KO2 spare since it was all I had with me. Made for an interesting 200 mile trip home lol.

True, I've seen a couple friends of mine destroy some BFG KM2 sidewalls before. Was weird though because this happened on a fire road pretty much, but then again I was going a lot faster so that was probably what did it...rounded it on a rock harder than I would have if I had been crawling.

Either way, the rest of them held up great the following day and for the pretty tough black diamond trail we took on the way out. I was sweating hard because I didn't have another spare and we were way out in the middle of nowhere lol. But all was well.

 

Those holes are cut into those frame plates to allow rosette welds. Having the rosette welds scattered over the length of the plate allows for more surface welding for attaching the plates to the actual frame.

 

Yes, I'm aware what and why a rosette weld is. That wasn't the question. I was wondering about the trails between them. Given what the other fellow said, best guess is that's where the waterjet went to low pressure and tracked to the next hole during manufacture.

 

I am looking for an idea on what part to order.

This would be part of the tailgate lock mechanism.

As it is now, the tailgate handle wont work, I can fix it temporarily. If I remove the inside panel, connected to the handle is a rotating assembly that is connected to some steel rods that control the locking on the ends. As it is, they pop out of the rotating plastic they are attached to if there is too much pressure, if the tailgate isn't closed gently, etc. I thought I took a picture of this but I didn't. I can pop it back in so it functions, but it wont last, it pops out almost immediately.

So I think I need that rotating plastic piece. I might also need the metal replacement tailgate panel I see some places offer (BAMF, etc.) to increase the rigidity of the tailgate.

 

I installed and auxiliary fuse block, mil spec terminals and a new cheepo battery I had laying around. I messed around with several fuse block mounting ideas but then decided to attach it to the lid of the existing one with a step down bit and some misc hardware. I mad sure to leave myself slack on both ends to access the fuse block below. I have not had any issues yet.
