A 3.5 or 4.0 I6 would make a great truck engine, just a bit long. sigh.

I’d prefer to hear very little, no engine, no exhaust, no drivetrain noise or as quiet as possible. But, a 4WD 4500lb truck with sprung rear end and longer travel suspension can be rather loud.

Sorry but the VW R32 would like a word with you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQUcvJsA3SQ

The 3.5 can sound good too in the Lexus RC 350 https://youtu.be/eVXX0FRnD3E?t=35

    It's not a rumbling V8, but it's still a nice sound.

On my Tacoma the sounds I usually hear are howling rear end, squeaking leaf springs, clattering motor, chirping idle, clunk when coming to a stop, and a kazoo coming from the driver door at high speeds

    Sound is subjective, OP.

Perhaps you were meant to own the Honda...

I was thinking "Boy, that does sound like an inline". 10.5°......how German. "Let's overly complicate this thing".

The Grip does sound the best of any I've heard on a Toyo. 3.5 engine. They put some serious effort into that.

Yeah it's somewhere in between. Haven't been in the VW scene for a while, but I think it's like a 12 degree V? Not quite inline, and not quite V, but damn does it sound great.

Yeah maybe that true dual exhaust that's going on now will get us a good sound.

Never cared for the R32's. Been around plenty of them in my Euro/Honda days. And maybe I'll get stoned for this, but even Flat/H6's never did anything for me, either. All sound tinny to me. My dream car back in my HS days was a 427 SS. The sound is still amazing to me and better than any V6 produced to-date, regardless of what exhaust system you put on them.

    All subjective.

I you have an auto , roll up the windows and when accelerating from 3500 up to 5000+ rpm , then compare it to the nascar sound clip from the 5 sec mark to about 8 secs or so . To me they are almost the same . I myself wish I could not hear the engine or trans shifting at all as it would be easier to tolerate all the 3 , 4, 5 ,4 shifting dance . I drove a new Highlander and I could hardly hear it , but when watching the tach I could see it . It was much more pleasant
I am curious to hear a ridgeline though , I have never seen one in person that I can remember .
