00' enigine removal

I didn't read what other info posted , but I would get my ass under the truck & unbolt that converter & keep it on the input shaft so when removing engine it separates cleanly from the transmission. Leaving the converter bolted to the engine will : possibly damage to splines on the input shaft or to the shaft itself & not to mention your going to have ATF leaking all over hell , take your time , do it right........

 

^x2 plus it could also damage the torque converter seal. butttt he said the engine is seized. so cant turn the engine to remove the converter bolts/nuts.

I'm doing a frame swap on a crashed 99TRD x-cab I bought from a guy in Oilville.

Yes you can pull a 3.4L with the converter and manifolds attached... Once you remove the cab

Seriously ~ unbolt the converter and leave the exh manifolds. Unclip the (3) harness connections at the computer behind the glove box. Take the engien out dressed / swap the stuff

 

Factory forgot to install those lift points on mine or a PO removed them for me.... I just strapped the manifold drivers rear and Power Steering bracket up Passenger front.

But it looks like you have it out now ~ and Colrado the 3.4L TOYOTA TACOMA engine from Colorado must have come with the brackets???

Im not quite sure on what your asking the engine on the hoist is the old one and I could get a pic on the new engine becuse it is in a trash bag to help protect it and stuff. If you are wondering about the brackets on the old one those are something my dad had kept from when he worked with the city and they came off a tuarus and they were used as tie downs for transport if I remember correctly. Just to be clear the eninge is the 3.4l V6 for a tacoma not a colorado (small chevy truck)

Ok, it's been a while since i've posted to this. i've got a couple more questions then hopefully we can put it back in the truck and have her runnin' good here soon. 1. what kind of oil filter do you guys run. ( I believe was the question) and 2. what kind of spark plugs are good. i read something somewhere that said they suggested a certain kind of plug.
We've sand blasted most of the parts that needed to go back on. i think it looks good. It would look 1000x better in the truck but, what can you do haha

 

Get a Toyota or wix filter oil filter - NO FRAM FILTERS!
You really need the OE Denso spark plugs, they are by far the best.

sorry i've been lacking on the pictures, we have her to the point where we could have her running by the middle of the week, will post pic (maybe some videos )

 

well we got her finished today, went to go and start it and it did, kinda. My dad said that it was blowing air out of the intake. SOOOOOoooo, we get to rip the front of and check the timing, fun. sorry for the lack of updates. Any tips or suggestions are welcome.

 

Okay, so we fired her up today, and, it didn't sound as bad as last time, so my dad gave her some gas, i was taking video, it stopped the "popping" noise, and ran fine, idled for a little bit. We turned it off, and tried again later, it fired up okay, and ran, then it acted like someone floored it and it rev'd to about 4k, we freaked and turned it off, tried one more time and it did the same thing. I am once again asking for advice, tips, or things to check out. thanks again in advance.I'll try to post that video, or atleast the link.

Sadly, no, i think it was more my ipod that was taking video then the engine. The high revs at the end is what we are worried about. We are going to replace the fuel filter and check the plugs later on today. Wish us luck.

Alright, so we checked IAC and the cruise control and now she runs fine, no unassisted rev, and no backfire, we left it running for over an hour, nothing to worry about happened. So it's off to DMV, then hopefully roadtest!

Great to hear dude & yeah its been almost 4 months since I posted here too !!

Just a little FYI, those 3.4's always over rev when you first start them up & it takes a minute or 2 for them to calm down, almost like an auto-choke,

at least the ones I've encountered & mine has done it ever since I've owned it.....

 

Alright, picked it up from Firestone and got new tires, nice and quite, will get either video or atleast pictures here soon. We had some small problems. At first we tired to go up a large hill and it seemed like it didn't want the gas, Happened again at the Sheetz on Hull St, big home depot truck came flying up on us and changed lanes real quick when he saw it was having problems, got to my cousins house and took for a test drive, tryed to replicate it and it didn't do it, no shudder, no weird noises (didn't have any from the start) or anything weird. We just figured that it had to "re-learn" how to drive, runs fine and took alittle highway seems to do fine and it's fun. No, just have to wait till September 4th till i can drive on my own, 11 days, i think. I have a feeling i'm doing good for my first truck.

 

Alright so now we are having problems with the CEL coming on, we are getting the code P0171 and having some problems getting it sorted out. We have a scanguage 2 and have it set-up to give us the A/F ratio. My question for the forums, what is good with this and what is bad, we are getting a reading that goes from 67-75, does this mean that it is lean, or that it is rich, where SHOULD our numbers at? Thanks in advance for the help.
