These numbers exist for a reason... it blows my mind that people just blow by them and not care. Insurance will have a fucking field day if you're ever in an accident loaded.

Wait - Isnt it “ladden weight” that matters? E.g., everything above the springs? Your truck isnt carrying the tires and wheels... but as for momentum, those would count.

Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is 11360 Per Toyota...

My Chevy 3500 had a GVWR of just shy of 10000... you’re telling me I was in imminent danger when I was towing 12k? Nah.... 100 gallon dragout tank, tool box, full tank, I was weighing in over 10k.

There is a GVWR and a Combined GVRW.... you “legally” shouldn’t weigh more than your GCVWR.

Combined GVWR for a 3rd gen taco, per Toyota, is 11360lbs... I don’t plan on carrying that much food or living space LOL

When you tow, very little of the weight is on the truck (generally 10-15%) and that tongue weight is well within the GVWR of the truck. A Taco can tow 6,500 (which is included in CGVWR) but is only rated for 650 on the tongue. That doesn't mean you can have the 1,200 in the bed *and* 650 on the tongue. That's nearly a 1-ton load.

Be cocky all you want, you will get fucked in an accident if it's a scenario where you could have reacted if you weren't absurdly over-laden and I fucking hope you don't kill someone. These trucks aren't over-built like a 1-ton is.

GVWR is the correct number for the maximum capacity of your truck. This can be improved with mods but nobody knows what the weak point is to say for certain.

Seems like you don't understand what this is...
In short, that includes a trailer which will give you AT LEAST ANOTHER AXLE to carry load AND have trailer BRAKES.

I get what you’re saying. Thanks for the concern. Every has a line drawn and this one is yours

Look at passenger cars.... load em up full capacity occupancy and chances are you’re over GVRW. Especially if you have gear, food, beach trip stuff, whatever

Tacoma, okay. GVRW of 5600lbs... ok Curb weight of 4445. Equals payload of 1155lbs. Okay, I buy it. Load up your buddies... 200lbs each, let’s assume, 5 x 200 = 1000lbs... you’ve got 155lbs left... better play it safe and leave everything else behind? Wait, no.... ask one of your friends to drive him or herself to the destination in a separate car... that’ll work....

    Thanks for your concern

You guys are grossly over exaggerating insurance claims.

And at fault accident is an at fault regardless of what your truck is.

Even if it wasn’t your fault, laws often dictate fault not vehicle weights.

If you rear end someone you are already at fault. It doesn’t matter what your truck weighed.

    True, for fender benders.

Throw in loss of life and things change. Hopefully you and the OP will never have to find out

No it doesn’t. If I rear ended someone in a 500 pound car or a 10000 pound car it’s still my fault regardless.

You are trying to add extra fault onto something. That’s not how it works.

Like i said. At fault is at fault.

Geez, why do you think things end at the liability decision??

Remember the term reckless when your time comes lol
