Truth... hahah.

I've considered getting a fiberglass hood and just wrapping instead of painting, but then I recall how much of a ballbuster fiberglass is to work with on the fitment side.

Oh yeah there are some really shitty wrap jobs out there, if you don't do it right it looks like ass. On top of that usually the guys who take the time to do it out right so that it won't pucker and shrink and look ragged command even higher premiums for their work.

And yeah even with a good wrap job you will definitely have the "seams" show- your underhood and door sills are going to be off color.

But if you wanna do it right with paint? Figure upwards of 10K because you have to strip the car out. You gotta drop the engine, remove the interior... that's more than a few extra levels of dedication to the change!

I dunno. Part of me thinks it can look really cool, part of me thinks it will look just like a halfassed spray job with mismatching door sills.

 

Wrap if you do it yourself is about $500. You can't even get a crappy maco paint job for that. For me and my heavy off road use it's a nice option. Even if I redo it every 2-3 years since the paint would be all scratched up by then anyways.

 

So decided I'm not going to Texas or Colorado. Instead were camping in AZ for about 5 days to see what we do/don't need. It will prepare us in the future for a trip that far.

 

12 hour day today, definitely not going in tomorrow. Especially now that I know were just staying in state.

Probably going for a day trip to Bearizona tomorrow with the lady. Never been and a coworker was telling me about it today.

 

What's everyone's go to for hub assemblies these days? Haven't seen anything lately from the bama or Jersey guy... anyone have any experience buying from 05taco4x4 guy?

 

no idea, stopped thinking about those after the drama with that one dude was aired.

Eventually I too will need some, so better get a game plan going.



What’s the average price for coilover rebuilds these days tho?

Not to sound like a smartass but you do realize that some (not all) wraps are just colored versions of the clear bra/PPF stuff that's specifically used to protect paint from scrapes and chips?



Yeah there's cheaper and/or thinner wraps that won't hold up as well (but better than you might expect because all vinyl has a certain "healing" factor to it that minimizes the appearance of a light scratch so long as there is no tear) but you can get some honkin' serious stuff that holds up shockingly well to abuse.

Regardless of thickness if it rips you're boned. Also not much can stand up to someone getting at it with a key or something... then again paint can't do that either.
