Something I've noticed about the 3.4

    Sometimes when I drive different vehicles and I'm at a stoplight I'll often look at the tach and most tach's on vehicles I have found do not stay at a complete dead center when idling. Not because they are in need of a tune up and they are running rough, it's just the nature and they fluctuate just that tiny tiny little bit as most engines do when they are at an idle. Again not to make the wrong impression, not talking a lot as if they are running rough, it's just that tiny tiny little bit that you can hardly even notice at all.

    I've put a around 2k on my '02 that now has 85k on it and the tach does not budge at all when it's at an idle. Complete dead center. I've driven a few other Taco's with a wide range of mileage that all had the 3.4, and all were the same way. Just kind of a cool thing that I've noticed about these trucks and wanted to share.

    Toyota quality ftw. :)

    I have 130K on mine and the idle is always dead set on 750 rpms once warm

    Yeah I guess that's the other thing I notice too 'when warm', that when I first start it up and its in warm up mode, its got the highest warm up idle of all time - this has been the case with every Yota I've ever owned - like 1500 till warm then that needle is frozen at 750.

    EXACTLY! The needles being a mechanical device have large enough margin of error to the point of meaningless if they sit still at idle.

    Exactly. Dead nuts on 1500 and dead nuts on 750.

    I only let it warm up for a minute or so at idle, at most, in winter. I typically let it warm up while driving by taking it real easy on the rpms for the first 5 miles.

    The temp gauge also stays at 60% solid.... i guess that's also a testament to toyota quality!

    When driving before warmed up, the manual trans becomes the biggest opponent of first gear, when warmed up, it's like butter.
