Welcome to the site, as long as you get rid of that dodge, you will be fine with either the taco or tundra....

well, of course mpg on Tacoma are better than the Tundra, the price is almost the same, but you should consider if you need all that power of the Tundra, the Tacoma can handle a lot of hauling and towing....

On the other side, i dont think a Dcab long bed its too good for off roading, and the short bed its good enough for my needs....

I have offroaded my tacoma and had no prob with the long bed. but when you get in tight situations then a short bed is better.

    Thanks everyone!

I simply cannot stand my Dakota anymore, and will be getting either a Tacoma or Tundra soon. Decisions, Decisions...

What I'll be hauling is ATVs, Home Depot stuff, bikes, snowboards, hunting stuff, and of course coolers.

I've read that most get low 20s for mpg on highway and high teens for city. Correct?

Any advice wether or not to get the Sport w/ hood scoop?

One think to remember about the long bed..

if you're getting a TRD, the TRD Offroad has rear-locking differential, but the TRD Sport does not. BUT, you can't get a long-bed in the TRD Offroad.

(I'm pretty sure I'm right about that... feel free to correct me, anybody.)

I don't know how long you keep trucks but the Tundra will have greater depreciation % over the same period of time compared to the Tacoma. I have owned 3 Tundra's and they depreciate at the same rate as the big 3 trucks.

In Canada you can't get the DC short bed with an auto transmission, who knows why?

I went with the short bed but would have preferred an auto rather than the stick. I am actually starting to like it now, but it is tough drinking a coffee, talking on the phone and shifting....

    A few bolts are different.
I like the long bed. I can make it a small apartment in the back, and have for a week at a time in a couple occasions.

here's an idea.... put the coffee and cell phone down.... Can't count the number of idiots that have almost run me off the road paying more attention to their cell or Starbuck's mocha-whatever. Too bad I don't have my winch bumpers and sliders to push back with. Or my air horns to wake them up.

The Long box is a short box. Not sure what the short box really is. How about a true long box with a regular cab on the AC, DCSB frame. A 7 1/2 foot bed would useful. Awe, but nobody would buy it. Oh well.

If its a double cab then go with the longbed. just looks more proportional that way. short bed with a double cab just doesnt look right to me.

I think that the DC long box looks more to scale lifted with bigger boots. Stock it looks like a train.

couldn't have said it better. but instead of a train, now with the lift and 33's, it feels like a tank!! even more awesome!!

I find that my short bed is just fine. I'm no contractor or anything like that so it works. Besides I've often thought if I did need the extra room I'd either throw my bed extender on or rent a trailer.
And on the other issue -- TACOMA
For both bed and size truck it comes down to, how much truck do honestly need?

Where is poleman when you need him? :p

I like the short bed on the double cabs, but it all comes down to what you need your truck for. :D

If you are going to do a lot off roading the short bed would be best. I went from a single cab to a access cab with long bed (same size as double cab with short bed) and I was suprised how easy it is to high center and the turning radius is longer.
