Worked fine with Carista. I only kept the app long enough to verify cal ID # due to the number of permissions it required. Works like a champ though, Cal ID will come up on the first page, IIRC.

Hi guys. My dealer really stinks! I asked for the update on my last oil change. They totally freaked out and they "needed to confirm the condition"... They told me that I have the latest update (which is not true). This people think that they have idiots as customers..:facepalm:I need to find a decent and honest dealer in MA....

got my Dad and I booked in for this friday at my dealer who ahs helped me a ton, Canadian equivalent 1533 update.Just got off the phone and they said they'll do the update if it's available no questions asked... Fingers crossed something pops up. I am bringing a copy of the tsb so maybe it'll give them some direction. Will update when the time comes.

Just got this tsb done on my 2018 with my 5k service. There's still a bit of a hard downshift from 40 to about 37/38, but the acceleration is definitely better. I didn't feel like I was fighting the pedal the whole way home.

Mostly posting for anyone having issues in the SE Houston area, Toyota of Alvin did it without any problems. I just told them that I was getting a weird stumble/lag around 35-50 mph. Didn't even mention the tsb and once it was done the service guy came out and let me know they updated the ECM with a new tsb that's out and that the shifting was a common issue.

I have a "cheap" J2534 cable that works fine in TechStream for everything BUT ecu flashing. I ordered the Tactrix cable and flashed mine in about 5 minutes without issue, after getting pushback from two dealers about "not being able to duplicate the issue".

I verified the calibration ID with my scan tool so I know they actually applied the update. Here is my report after a few weeks.

My gas mileage is up to 20.7 average from 19.7 on my 15 mile half highway, half surface roads commute. I don’t get any surging around 40 mph or get the stumble on light acceleration from a coast in a high gear. I also seem to have less low temp surge after start but I will confirm after the weather cools down.

All in all a very worthwhile update if you are on the fence, do it.

Thanks, I figured a better cable would be needed for this.

    None yet!
Dealer here (Coughlin) refused the tsb update because they could not replicate any of the problems. Service tech drove it around the block and said the transmission in these trucks are just like that. I asked if he could just do the update to see if I noticed an improvement, he said No!

Not to be disrespectful but it makes noise. I’ve not seen a single legitimate test showing that it does anything other than that. Net ZERO hp.

It looks pretty. It's the same air box you have now with a different filter in it and a fancy top that says "TRD" on it.

Just an update and some venting. Don’t mind me.

Originally had the truck 4 weeks, really noticeably unpleasant shifting, the hesitation and then aggressive forward jerking when it finds the gear. Got the updates, had it for the last 2 weeks, while much better, issues still noticeable and present. It’s like just when it seems like it drives well enough, it has some kind of episode.

Random clunk when stopping, still occasionally hunting gears, sometimes feels like it wants to settle in to a higher gear, even when only at 2k rpm’s, and still sometimes the hesitation and surge/jerk forward (smoother release than before, but still just the worst)!

Honestly, the closest comparison in my experience with this truck has been like driving an older automatic car where the transmission is old and going bad, slipping, jerking, etc. even if I trust their word that it is “normal,” it just feels so abnormal I find it hard to believe and it feels like damage is being done to the truck.

I am blown away that Toyota hasn’t sorted this out, even if it meant pulling the transmission from every damn truck out there.

I didn’t suffer as long as the 2016-17 folks to get the latest updates based on the latest TSB’s, but I will likely go for the OV Tune as everyone swears by it saving them from losing their minds. And anyone who’s going to the dealer and getting turned away on the updates, it just makes me sad you can pay upwards of 35-40k for a truck with a live forever reputation and get an experience that makes you want to hit your head onto a wall.

In ref. to the Stumble at Wide Open Throttle Takeoff, I took My Taco to the dealership on may 2018, because of the hesitation on my truck every time I hit the gas petal, I chow them the T-SB-0062-18 and I was told that it wasn't a recall for my taco, so I call 1-800-331-4331 Toyota Corp., and I explain the situation to Mr. Kendra, he immediately open a ticket for me to take my taco back to the dealership on the 5 September 2018, and wolaaaaa, the software on my taco was outdate. So now it runs like a baby..... this high altitu area it don't have anything to do with the location, check your taco or call the 1-800...…………...I hope this info will help......
