The older or the newer version? Those are the ones I was hoping to get.

Purchased in late 2016, so new I believe.

Only used them a few times in 2017 and a few times this spring.

Already boxed em up and filled out the Patagonia repair form. Mailing tomorrow.

For what it's worth. A recent article I read recommend only 2 waders for Alaska. The Rio Gallegos were one of the two.

I understand there are always manufacturing defects. I'd wear them again.

Couple more phone pics. Still need to get pics off my camera.

Had four 7WT outfits rigged up for various species/situations.

    Nice!

We selected this time of year to target the Coho run. Bristol Bay had a typhoon 3 weeks ago and that triggered a lot of Cohos to move up the rivers. Water was still on the high side.

Another cool story (that's what makes these trips special). We had a pair of Ravens follow us down river for a few days. I had a few hours to kill in Anchorage before my flight home on Saturday, so I took a cab to a small local native store and found this small ivory hand carving of a Raven ($150). Reminded me of our travel companions.

Nice, ravens are admired by a lot NW First Nations people, usually on top of most totem poles and in their art etc .
They help their hunters find the prey, knowing they will recive scraps in return.

    But ....

On the third day camping at this lake on Vancouver Island I had a raven circling my camper yapping that morning..... later discovering, I’m being stocked by a cougar!

After reading the book “Moutain Lion, Beautiful, Wild and Dangerous” (suggested read by a local) I learn that the raven plays both sides of the coin and that morning he was saying “He’s in the Camper!” He’s in the Camper!”
Just something to reflect upond now that your home safe and sound...

Just realized I don’t think I took any pictures from my trip a couple weeks ago.... :anonymous: Too busy catching fish I guess.

Caught about a million and a half coho’s, and a bunch of big old chums too. It sucked that it was pissing rain for two weeks before we got there so the water was really high and dirty which made fishing with flies pretty tough. Resorted to big globs of cured eggs under bobbers to get all of my family into consistent numbers of fish

Do you use a center pin, or just spinning gear, for the bobber and eggs?

Spinning gear. I was fishing the seam where a clear water river met with a glacially fed river. The fish like to pull out into the clear water to clean out their gills. So I was just standing way upstream and opening my bale and slowly letting the eggs and bobber drift down the seam with the current. Hit fish just about every drift early in the mornings and late in the evenings. I had some luck stripping flies, but even the “clear” water was really murky which made eggs way more effective

I went for a bike ride in the ATL area. Found a small promising stream with panfish in it so I broke out the Tenkara rod and a kebari fly and had a little bit of fun. The 12 foot Tenkara Sawtooth was a little bit too long for East Coast fishing though. I think I'll invest in an 8 footer soon.

I carry the Cascade rod on North Georgia/Western NC rides and hikes for just the scenario you've depicted. Don't think they make that model anymore, but it has served me well. I'm still a super noob to the Fly fishing/Tenkara world.

    thanks.
I have a few buddies running pins for steelhead, and swear by it. I have yet to delve into it.

The Mini Sawtooth folds down to 14" so I can probably figure out a way to strap that sucker down on my top tube or put it in a pack. Tenkara is like an easier, more basic version of fly fishing. It's not as good for the big Rocky Mountain rivers because it lacks the range (nothing beats a 5 wt for big rivers where you need to be able to battle the wind) but for small streams, Tenkara is just about perfect. Less stress on the fish too since they get released faster with less fighting involved. After traditional flyfishing for 20 years, I'm about 50/50 Tenkara now.

Here are some pics from Idaho (Ketchum area) using Tenkara.
