I hate when people ruin nice things that I take care of like you do your truck. Most people do not respect other's property. You would think a dealership wouldn't damage a vehicle like they did your truck.

Quite frustrating to say the least, I had to call off work early this morning because I knew getting my truck towed and fixed at the dealer was gonna be a long affair. Then to find my wheel damaged and both parties denying either one of them did it just compounded the bad day I was having. I only have 6,014 miles on this truck and I take very good care of it, as I do with everything I own and buy. I just want my truck back in the condition it was before this morning (no check engine/trac lights and no wheel damage).

Good luck on getting reimbursed for the damaged wheel. I've had wheels damaged before and made the tire shop buy a replacement wheel on my 2015 Tacoma. Looking forward to receiving my new Off Road later this month. Traded (Sept 2017) my 2016 Sport double cab to buy my son a new Silverado Double Cab when he turned 16. I've missed my Tacoma every since last September.

Unfortunately unless you have pictures taken immediately the tow operator took control of your truck then another prior to turning it over to the dealership of the affected area or have a collaborating witness that saw the damage happen it might be hard to prove either party caused the wheel scrapes.

Not a lawyer but that seems to be the evidence required to prove your case if you try to pursue and get anything out of it.

Appears to be curb damage but its hard to distinguish who was behind the wheel at the time.

That's the sad part. When a person needs to take tons of pictures of their truck beforehand not knowing if something could be damaged. I would like to think since I used the tow service that Toyota contracted out to, even if the towing company won't admit blame or pay, Toyota would like to keep me a happy customer and fork out the $200 for the new wheel and $20-30 to have my current tire mounted and balanced to the new wheel.

I knew both sides were going to deny fault. Worst case is I buy a new wheel myself and a new Falken tire then make the damaged one my spare wheel/tire since I still only have the OEM spare.

That’s unfortunate. He just cleared the code without doing even a quick wiggle test. The circuit code indicates a wiring problem. It’s possible it won’t return but it was lazy to not at least attempt to duplicate the issue.

Not familiar with thatzstyle of wheel but is it just a trim ring that's damaged, similar to the fake TRD beadlocks? If so can a replacement be sourced from the vendor instead of a whole new wheel?

Check engine and trac off light are on AGAIN!

I called the service department at my local dealer because i brought it to them 2 weeks ago for the same issue.

They also told me there is also this blower motor recall on my truck and asked if i would like to have both issues fixed at the same time. So my truck will be going in next Thursday (9/27) morning. Hopefully they actually fix the check engine issue this time rather than just resetting the code without actually verifying and diagnosing the issue.

A check engine light and/or trac off light on does not mean you cannot drive the vehicle. Sitting on the side of the road waiting for roadside assistance was not necessary. Hope you can get your rim issue resolved.. With more people involved (people who had possession of your vehicle), there are more "fingers" that can be pointed. Your vehicle can also be damaged (suspension/steering) if the tow driver does not secure your vehicle properly, so I would avoid that..

The first time it happened i had Toyota roadside assistance and erred on the side of caution. This time i drove it back home and its sitting in the garage until i take it to the dealer next week. I have two other vehicles i can use so not really an issue just an annoyance since they didn't fix the actual issue the first time. When i bring it to them next week i am telling them they need to actually diagnose and fix the core issue that is causing the lights. I'm not going back a 3rd time because they want to be lazy and just reset the code.

As for the wheel damage i am still waiting to hear back from roadside service on their investigation conclusion. They made me get invoice quotes for all the work and parts needed to fix the damage BEFORE they would even start their investigation. Seems like a backwards process meant to deter the claimant from wanting to pursue. Would make more sense for them to do their investigation and if they will pay to fix the damage THEN ask for all that.

I dropped the truck off Wednesday night so the dealership could work on it first thing Thursday morning. They fixed the blower motor under the service campaign but they had to open up a case with Toyota for the check engine and trac off light.

Additionally, after doing all the documentation, pictures, and running around getting service and wheel quotes the investigation concluded with since both parties are denying they damaged the wheel neither of them have to pay for it.

So long as they fix the issue causing my dashboard lights to go off and I have no more issues with the truck while it is under warranty I won't be bringing my truck to the dealer anymore. All these experiences with Toyota have left a bad impression on me.

There is no way I would accept that answer about the wheel damage. Contact corporate and definitely don't go back there. A couple bad online reviews would be in order also.

Not to endorse any of the above, but my wife Prius had the same lights come on...turns out, it was the gas cap not closed properly.

I've spent so much time dealing with this already that I'm defeated and over it. I don't want to waste more of my time. You would think as a customer they would want to take care of you but guess not.

I assume they checked that. I always turn the cap until it doesn't click anymore, which is only like two clicks. Would a gas cap cause a trac off light too?

Some dealers just don't care. To me, it would at least be worth it to alert others?

    Hold on ..

There is information stored in the ECU that would tell a technician how long a person operated their truck with a code set.

Now, this is a very specific example but let's say the code set was for multiple missfires. I continue to drive my truck, unburned fuel is making it's was to my CAT(S) and ends up destroying them. Ok, that's unlikely but it has happened to a TW member IIRC. And yes, there would likely also be noticeable driveability problems. But let's think about this...

What do you think Toyota's response could be, facing expensive warranty repairs? Would you really want to risk driving your truck with a code set, if you could safely pull over and have roadside assistance take care of it?
