Try 93. It will go away once the timing adjusts. Mine has been doing it for 30k miles. If it's not timing, it costs you about $8 to diagnose it.
Resetting it also resets the timing on the ECU.

I tried three tanks of 93. Didn't help. I thought it was detonation to at first.

Nope. My manual does it too so it's not the torque converter

Users have data logs of the miss. I'll see if I can dig it up. Of course maybe it doesn't apply to you, but the problems you and OP describe match it exactly. I believe the other user still had the miss with premium though.

@bshammer0 can probably explain it better.

my brand new 6 speed Automatic tacoma does this.......lurches/bucks at low rpms, usually after trans downshifts below 1500 RPMs, speed doesnt matter. With throttle play it gets worse until it upshifts to accelerate.

Does not feel like a miss, more like throttle surges.

Mine doesn't do it till 4th gear then it starts. It stopped after the tsb's were done for about 1,500 miles. Thought it was over till last week it started again. Just got a second call today from Toyota. There gonna run some tests next Wednesday. Flying in a engineer from Kentucky and I guess there gonna be on a web cam with others from Toyota. I just hope they figure this shit out. If not I'm hoping to hear good things about 1.05 from ovtune that it has found a solution.

If we can get some data logs that might steer us in the right direction that would be a start. My Techstream isn't letting me stream live data for some reason.

Hell no. That had it for 2 days and didn't find anything. So I ordered OVTune.

I ran a couple of tanks of 93 octane and it seemed to help. Ran a tank of 87, jerkiness returned.

I tried the 93, didn't really help. Waiting for the reg key for OVTune now.

Same issue here. Had a tech ride with me this morning after they were unable to duplicate the concern on their own...after two other visits. His diagnosis (guess) is that it's the motor trying to figure out which cycle to run in.

I have my doubts about his conclusions. Will be trying a different dealer shortly.

I'm having the exact same problem. At the 5k service I had them reset the relearns but it was doing it as soon as I left the dealer. Transmission shifts and feels fine, just the slight miss, jerkinesss after 4th gear

Some of us in the OVtune community have learned that this symptom can affect one truck and not others under very similar conditions (same Octane fuel, same calibration, and very similar environmental (elevation/temps etc). Mat looked into logs I sent him and identified the cause in my case: the engine was flip flopping between the pseudo-Atkinson and Otto sides of the VVT equation within a specific range of rpm/load. One test file later, the symptoms were gone. Anyway, that's just my case.

Does it feel like driving into a gusty headwind? That is how my father-in-laws new RAV4 feels on the highway.

So I guess don't get the latest tune TSB, but wait for the next one ?
All those that got the latest tune will need to revisit I guess ?

The latest tune (062) fixed my hesitation, but I still have the miss on regular, not on 93. So I'd say get the latest tune if you have the heitation or surge.

I have ran about a tank and a half of 93 and it has made a noticeable improvement to the miss/jerky feeling. I guess these new engines are pretty sensitive to different octane. It has not gone completely away, but definitely not as pronounced. Hopefully it will continue to improve.
