Quiet in here lately. Maybe the calm before the storm?

Just flashed for first time, 1.04 87. Initial thoughts are that it is pretty good and nice that they can do anything with a normally aspirated engine. I keep a FWC Swift camper on most of the time so was excited to get some power back. However, it is not really a game changer and truck still a bit of a dog below 2200(which is better than 3400). From a dead stop it is still a stinker and cannot comfortably start in 2nd as I have been able to with every other MT truck I've owned. Looking forward to calculating MPG and will try the 91 with the next tank. Toyota should have dropped a more torquey engine in it because everything else about it is wonderful.

For those waiting for 105 and not on the alpha thread.
    FROM MAT
I just posted in the thread the reason why it is taking longer, Toyota went from updating 2 ECU versions to updating more than 6. Does not sound like much but each one has different shift control characteristics and tables (except for the 2 manuals). Not to mention table locations, addresses, etc are all changed.

It is being actively worked on while I finish a solution that can be given to everyone without worry. I do not have a set in stone date yet but it won't be that much longer. I am not sure what else I can say. I'll show you guys the differences and what the current obstacles are to overcome if that is what you want to know. Here is 1 of the major issues, the exact same transmission (auto) is in the tacoma (Mexico version, South American version) and Prado (China, Australia) with different shift control tables. You can take just the OEM "USA" shift tables, plug it into the Mx vehicles and the truck cannot shift. There is no clear reason as to WHY this is, yet.
That's one of a few obstacles at the moment.

That's excluding the investigation of detonation on the new TSB on NON tuned trucks.
This truck has a very serious problem with detonation and I WILL NOT RELEASE A MAJOR UPDATE UNTIL THIS IS SOLVED.

It all comes back to this configuration of tables in this ECU, I am 99% sure it's the root of all of the issues and reason for multiple updates by Toyota. The 16+way "demand" tables... They don't exist in older ECUs, they don't exist in most newer ECUs, nor Toyotas new stragety on their Dynamic Force engine and RH850 ECUs. Almost like the 2GR-FKS and 8AR-FTS were experiments....

It exists on literally the 2GR-FKS and 8AR-FTS and nothing else (that I have seen, and I've seen damn near every toyota calibration on the planet, including custom firmware like SAARD, etc)

That does that mean us manual guys may get our 1.05 release first?

Untuned truck, but have the tsb done. I used to buck really bad on speed bumps/poor roads with low RPMs. I was a -10 ECU though. With the TSB it has smoothed out a ton but is still there and I still get some hesitations/stutters in 2nd but not nearly as bad.

So I do feel the hesitation when the engin is cold. 1st to 2nd. It’s slight but it’s there.

    When 1.05?

Everybody is oohing and ahhing over the idea of something that will be ridiculously expensive. I’m pretty sure there are a shit ton of the mpg whiners in there talking about how they can’t wait to get boosted. That right there is the definition of dumbassery.

    Mostly stuff I built.
Im honestly more interested in the equal length dual exhaust than I am the turbos. I am more apt to spend $5-10k on a turbo diesel swap than adding turbos to the 3.5L

Whether or not people will want to accept it, adding boost will come with additional costs too. For us MT owners any high RPM shifts will quickly lead to the need for more clutch pressure and the accelerated loss of the OEM friction plate material. I've seen this stuff before and lots of people get excited for boost and then the cost of the applications typically kills 80-90% of them. Then watching those with boost need to replace parts kills the hopes of a few more. I encourage people to be excited, but also realistic.

When I had my 4Runner a lot of people got excited for the Magnuson SC, the eventual cost of being 6500+ resulted in a hand full of people actually doing it. It looked no different than here, pages of interest and maybe 3-5 actual applications.

As far as power and cost is concerned, I hope the Tacoma is more robust since it is a truck. But from my history, not with the Tacoma, I've seen that crossing the 350-400 to the ground eventually results in needing re-enforced gears and clutches. Cryoing the diffs and new clutches can easily push the out of pocket cost to very undesirable numbers.

I'm sure that'll get some people heated, but it is what it is.

You failed to mention the aspirations of pulling up to a stop light and drag racing every fucking vehicle they line up with even if it’s a Honda Odyssey driven by a 47 year old Asian woman.
