59lbs I’m pretty sure. Check the cooper website.

I'll agree with your points on-road, but wider tires definitely have some merits off-road. Especially when it comes to really rutted out trails, they can be the difference between straddling a rut or going down in it and potentially high centering. I really like my wider tires on trails now, granted they're 35s and not 285s.

The real point is just "hey look you can fit this one flavor of 33s with no work, so you can save some money and effort for later"

I would have to agree. To your first part, this past weekend I was out on some really rutted, hilly/rocky trails and a couple of times that half inch/wider than the body tires would have given me a MUCH better/easier line to take. The inset tires and narrowness made me take a different line, still made it, just harder. Though, that being said I avoided some ruts/holes because of the narrowness where people with 12.5" wide tires were getting sucked in.

Given the chance (money and time really), I would definitely go up to a 35". I went 255/85R16 which gave me 2" of additional axle clearance AND a more agressive tread than stock for less than just a lift would run me, much less a lift AND more aggressive tires (lifting to squeeze 285s). This route allowed me to remedy the weakest link on this truck offroad (tires) without having to spend money replacing something that wasn't the weakest link (suspension). Based on my adventures, a winch and sliders will be way more advantages to me than a lift. So, the next step is those things.

Did you notice a power loss with those 255’s compared to let’s say a 265/75?

I think I mentioned it in my first post, but this was my exact mentality as well. Then over time, I started piecing together lifts, and cutting on the truck, and then went up to bigger tires. But it was nice to have the extra capability on trail for the year or so where I was working on making bigger mods possible.

Im pretty sure that 255/85/16s fit on all 3rd gen trim levels with little to no modification to the truck.

I've been looking, but can't seem to find pics of a stock-height dclb with 255s. Anyone care to post theirs up?

I'm running 886 with firm struts and Dakars and have no rubbing issues on stock rims with the 225/85/16

Looks sick man! Those are the exact tires I plan to get. How’s the ride from stock tires? Also, did the mud guards need to come off for them to fit?

I am also very interested in these tires. I've heard they are very light. Is the sidewall 3 ply?

    Thanks!
Never had any mud guards, but doesn’t seem like they’d be an issue.
Ride was noticeably stiffer coming off of the OEM off-road tires since these are E-rated. Only thing is that they are loud.. not SUPER loud but mud mud-tires can get old on a long ride lol.

Off-road: they’re amazing, definitely great on trails.

I don’t remember, but they’re the lightest E-rated mud tires in a 255/85/16 I found. If I remember correctly they were somewhere around 52lbs

After having 255s for 2 days now and driving 150 miles Im getting the exact same MPG as before with stock wheels and tires. 18-19mpg. Performance wise I cant feel any difference at all. I feel taller and when going 70mph it feels a little less stable due to the high sidewall but thats about it. And personally I dont think the tire looks skinny or in anyway worse then 285. I think it looks perfect, especially on an 8inch rim. But thats my opinion I guess. I feel like this size suites our midsize trucks well.

I dont drive slow but I dont drive fast either. Just trying to keep my shifts between 2-3000 seems to yeld me good MPGs. Maybe it being an MT helps keep it at that sweet spot for good mileage.

@x2akimbo The 255's fit fine on an 8 inch rim for you?
