I have a 2012 4x4, and I'd like to fit 275/65r18s on it without breaking the bank. So, I'd like to just buy some Bilsteins, set them at 1.75, and be good. With that said I've searched I think every related thread on this site and I've found a couple guys that fit this tire with leveling the truck at 1.75. However, both of the trucks I saw that fit this (with apparently no rubbing, no trimming) are 3rd Gen. Do 3rd Gen Tacomas come slightly higher in the front than 2nd Gen's to allow that to fit, because most people say I'd have to go 265 rather than 275. I already have 18x9 rims with -12 offset, which is why I'm stuck on this tire size

    Too much.
Is that because of the the 3rd gens suspension? Could you put a 3rd gen's shocks and springs on a second gen and get a bit of a lift?

I believe so. The suspension tuning between the 2nd and 3rd gens are different as the 3rd gen frame is more rigid, so not sure how it would ride.

So based on what you guys are saying, I wouldn't be able to fit that tire on a 2nd gen like they do on the 3rds?

3rd gens have a higher spring rate coil which is why they are 1” higher than a 2nd gen. They also have larger wheel wells which is why they can fit bigger tires with less/no rubbing. You can fit those tires but be prepared that you may need to trim some plastic or even cut some metal.

I might just have to go with a 285/60r18 tire then and hope they don't look too small. They look perfect on a short bed but idk about on a long bed

Back to this, can you put 3rd gen shocks on a first gen?

I have someone who is interested in my 3d gen take off, that has a frst gen....
