Wait, like seriously? Ceramic coated pan (nothing shall stick), butter the bread up hardcore, cheese of choice in the center, cook at high heat until sufficiently dark and crispy, flip, previous step again, cut diagonally and serve with tomato soup

You'd be surprised at how many restaurants are supplied by Sysco and others like them. They sell cheap government grade stuff as well as fancy Gordon Ramsey grade stuff. Its all in what restaurants order.

There was a 15 page discussion on how to make grilled cheese properly when you went AWOL.

I lost that argument. I butter the pan first, and then add the bread.

It escalated so much that I made two different sandwiches using two different methods and had my roomates try them.

I'll grab one for you later, basically the sidewall has a perfectly round rub mark on it and a puncture hole where the rub went through the sidewall...looks like it rounded on a sharp rock, which had to have been pretty sharp because I know these Coopers are supposed to be known for their sidewall strength (much like the KO2s are). That was on a fire road though which is what gets me, although I was going 'fast' (maybe 35/40) when it happened so that might have contributed.

The next day I wheeled a really tough trail with tons of rocks and boulders that I had to rub up against, and the rest of them held up fine. Hopefully just a freak occurrence.

But yeah America's Tire is telling me that I might be SOL on getting it replaced for free, I didn't buy their warranty and they are looking into the manufacturer one, which they say is a pro-rated warranty at best. Dunno how that will shape out but I should find out next week, these tires are hard to come by and they have to order them from Texas apparently

I've often wondered why it's called a grilled cheese sandwich and not pan cheese sandwich.

BFGs in general are known for their abnormally weak sidewalls

I dunno I beat the piss out of two sets of KO2s and never once got a flat or leak of any kind. On the other hand, I do know that their mud terrains have sidewall issues from friends that have run the KM2s

Nothing against Sysco. I forget what their catering division is called.

At my old high school, the food really was a hit or miss. Sometimes there were really good choices I personally looked forward to, other times it was downright mass produced slop.

One day I decided to volunteer for a fundraiser lunch where the school hosts a luncheon in order to impress donors. The food was cooked by the same cooks, and by god it was incredible. The quality was 100x better than usual. I learned most of these cooks have had a professional career beforehand.

It really comes down to supply and demand. The more people you have to cook for, the lesser the quality is. When you have few people to cool for, and absolutely need quality, it shows in the food.

I have respect for the people who run those kitchens. It’s not an easy job to cook for 1,000 plus people in a few hours.

It's just a BFG thing, my wheeling group has only ever had BFG sidewall failures

I worked as a groundskeeper for a summer camp the past 2 summers. Our kitchen people were a bunch of college aged girls with little food service experience. They ordered from Sysco and aside from it being mostly little kid food, it was good quality food. I worked the breakfast shift in the kitchen my first summer. We got jimmy dean sausage and pillsbury biscuits along with aunt jemima pancake mix all through Sysco. I couldnt complain, aside from getting up at 5 to cook for 200 kids and then have to wash all the sticky grossness off their plates. Which led me to strictly doing grounskeeping only my 2nd summer. Weedeating at 5am is more fun than cooking.

I butter the pan first because I use real butter and real butter doesn't spread on soft bread easily (unless you let it sit out or heat it up but who has time for that)

And I won't hear any of this 'use the spreadable butter' argument....that stuff is margarine not butter, definitely not the same thing

I've actually used olive and grapeseed oil in the pan before instead of butter and it tastes really good too. Also making grilled cheese in a skillet that just had bacon cooked in it (bacon grease) makes them taste awesome
