I just purchased a 2018 sr5 Tacoma. Brand new, first owner, took it right of the floor with only 14 miles on it. I have a huge concern regarding a relentless shake that starts once reaching 78mph or more. It's consistent from the night I first drove off the lot. It feels as if it comes more from the front end but it's essentially felt through the whole truck. Although vaguely it can also be felt in the steering wheel. I brought the truck back next day .and left it in there care(service department ) only to pick it up 2 days later and to have the dealership tell me they had not one, " but alllllll the technicians" test and inspect the truck and told me that it drives exactly as any brand new truck should drive.
I've driven many trucks i'n my life and NEVER felt a shake such as the one that came with my brand me truck. On top of this issue, I noticed that the hood also hops up and down way more than I would expect any new or old vehicle to do so. This starts happening around 40mph and up. I really don't think they are related however i'm not ruling it out. Does anybody out there have any or both of these problems with their new sr5??? I'm desperate for answers, as Toyota have turned their backs on me.

I have not had any problems with my 2018 SR5. Maybe you should bring it to another dealership to have them look at it. Nothing says you have to go with the dealer you bought it from.

Wow thanks for the quick responses guys I really appreciate it. Believe it or not there is actually yet another concern with the truck.
When I put the truck from reverse to park or drive to park or other any any gear changes, I hear this very loud metal to metal clacking and slapping noise and sometimes a physical kick back pulse in the gear shifter intermittently. Very disappointing as I have been waiting years preparing to purchase what I have always dubbed " my dream truck"
It's actually been nothing short of a nightmare for me. $40k regret!!!
And for the record Toyota also said it was a characteristic of the truck???

Did you test drive before purchasing? $40K is really, really steep for an SR5, you could have got a lot more truck for that kind of money. If I were you I would make a video of your issues so you have evidence and pick a different Dealer to go to. Good luck.

The hood glue is an issue. Search around and there are threads on it.

The reverse to drive could be you engaging it too fast or still rolling. It'll make the traction control not know what to do. That happened to me once. But just once. So if it's happening all the time, that's a problem.

hood skin is glued down. may want to check those points of contact for any abnormalities

78 mph is high than normal speed and there could be anything related to unbalanced mass- tires, wheels, drive shaft, etc. is it 4X4?

    Have them drive with you.

Take it to a nuetral third party .
A Good Tire Shop. Have them look at it. And see where it goes from there.

3 weeks ago I brought home my Pro and it was taken back because of vibration at about 73 mph and not to my surprise there were no wheel weights I would bet your tires aren’t balanced

$40,000 for an SR5? Does it have a lift from the dealer?

Otherwise, take to the dealer. It's under warranty. Too many possibilities on the shake. The hood is probably the glue.

Wow I have alot of getting used to with this forum(first time lol) so first I'm hoping this response will be sent to all those who engaged in my posts and so on. Thanks for all the great feedback guys. So first, the reason for the 40k was because I still owed on my 09'ranger I traded in. Ive considered the high 70's vibration a tire balance issue but Toyota says they couldn't test drive it over 70 because it's illegal (boy that pissed me off) . So then I considered bringing it to a tire shop or performance shop but Toyota tech told me if they suspect I had any servicing to the truck by anybody other than them that I would not only lose my free maintenance that comes with the truck, but that it would also void virtually every other issue that was to ever come up in the future. So i'm stuck between a rock and a hard spot because i'm already having issues that they refuse to give a damn about, but if something even bigger or more noticeable was to ever happen(knock on wood) I would need these idiots to cover and fix it. . The slapping noise could be from the traction control and shifting from reverse to drive to quickly so thanks for the idea on that. I will definitely play around with it to see if it makes a difference with TC on or off. Thanks alot guys I'll keep yall posted

Toyota(that dealer i mean) told you wrong... they cant void your warranty for service by a third party unless it was faulty service

I had that same noise going on my SR5, and today got the latest TSB done and all the fuss I been having is gone. Truck runs smooth like it should be. I know the pain to get that truck you wanted very bad and this now happening to you. Hope the another dealer you go to next will help you and BTW the latest TSB is for the 2018 models.

I would be curious to see if there is any difference between driving 78 mph on the highway and driving the same speed on a fixed apparatus such as a dynamometer or a test stand that is used to calibrate speedometers. This would rule out any vibration or shaking due to aerodynamics. This of course would only test the rear wheels unless you have 4 wheel drive.

Have them [dealer] check and make sure your drive line is balanced. Maybe it lost a weight or wasn't balanced properly.
